St Clair-Kickett main support to Fenech-Nelson

Post by ryan711 »

Over on sportsnut.com.au they got this.Big fan of both of them dont know who 2 go for.
Former IBF junior-lightweight champ Gairy St Clair is poised to fight hot prospect William Kickett on the undercard to the Jeff Fenech-Azumah Nelson three-peat in Melbourne on June 24.
St Clair is trained by Johnny Lewis, who has previously described Kickett as the most talented Aboriginal prospect he's seen since Lionel Rose 40 years ago.
St Clair recently lost a 12-round decision in London to British Olympic hero Amir Khan and was taken to a close decision in his win over Filipino Jun Paderna in Cronulla.
Kickett's trainer Craig Christian saysSst Clair is ready for the taking against his 21-year-old star who is undefeated in nine fights and knocked out Paderna in a round last year.

yeah, I am "getting it", so are most on here. It's a good fight, one I want to see. Even if it turns out to be loss for Willie, it will be a major learning experience and, for what it's worth, it will be a creditable loss that won't detract from his record. Either way I don't see a large down-side.

You know pawpaw, sometimes a hand gun does the same job as a machine gun. Ya get it

He may, and he should, but I still want Willie to acquit himself well and see the fight out, because we all know St Clair won't stop him. From this point forward Willie has a better chance of making something of his career. Gairy is not on the way up, he's just gone over the edge and has seen the beginning of the descent. Hope he can prove me wrong.

Nah, that was when he was fighting the Thai bloke. If they put more fights like this on the undercard it could go alright...

St Clair pay demand may nix Kickett fight

Former world champ Gairy St Clair may have priced himself out of a showdown with undefeated Perth hotshot William Kickett.
The pair are due to fight on the undercard of Jeff Fenech-Azumah Nelson III in Melbourne on June 24 but there has been a final hitch to the deal.
``Gairy wants too much cash,’’ said Fenech, who is promoting the fight.
``I’m willing to pay a fair price but he wants the sort of money you get for a world title challenge.
``He wants more than Danny Green got to fight Markus Beyer for the WBC title in Germany the first time ($US30,000).
``If he thinks he’s worth that much let someone else promote it.
``At the end of the day the people who come to see Fenech-Nelson III are coming to see us not the undercard.’’
Stay tuned.

St Clair is hardly a household name. His past 5 fights haven't been too good either. He has either beaten run-of-the-mill club fighters, or has been schooled in defeat. Perhaps he is trying to cash in before it is too late. But he is just not worth the big bucks. Remember, his last fight was at Cronulla Leagues club FFS. I like Gairy, but he has to be realistic if he believes he is building towards another tilt. It might be an interesting local fight, but this will hardly register a blip on the world scene.

Agree and he is pricing himself out of the fight by the sounds of it, but still a good fight for Kicket

Substitute the word "suckers" for people in the above quote and you get a better reflection on how this event is being promoted.

So far there is no guarantee the fight is on.

As a former IBO World Champion St Clair may think he is worth more than Fenech is prepared to offer. Maybe he is looking for a major payday before he retires.

I think it is fair to expect more than 30K to give Kickett a boxing lesson...
