Dynamite on Sky this weekend...

Post by bennie »

Welsh lightweight "Dynamite" Dean Phillips takes on Manchester's former Commonwealth title challenger Gary Hibbert this Saturday at Bridgend in a televised eight-rounder (almost certainly televised, anyway).
This ain't an easy fight for Dean in only his second appearance in six years, though turning it around, it's not an easy fight for Hibbert either in front of a partisan Welsh crowd.
Good luck Dean.

Gary's not been in the best of form recently (I believe he lost at Light Welter) - it will be interesting, I wish Dean all the best, if I'm not sure if I would have taken this fight quite so soon, but Dean has got plenty of mileage in the clock left to comeback - so its probably worth the risk.

Thats say something to me obviously your too much of a risk, did you try Chris Barnett or a rematch with Maynard (obviously can't fight you immediately after his tough fight last time).

Was set to fight Lee Meager in March.....he pulled out last week.....there is a long list of supposed prospects that have been in avoiding gear.

Where are you training now? Don’t tell me your still in the garden.
Do you still spar with your sister? Is she still fighting herself?
Do you think the time off has helped you in terms of your boxing, I mean being in the gym working out you pick up and try new things, without the wear and tear of competition, the sharpness I know comes from activity, but do you think you have added something you did not have first time around.

The sparring with my sister was just something that Sky did for a feature, like a gimmicky thing....she doesn't fight any longer. I train here in a local boxing gym in my town (no, not in the garden), but the bulk of my training is done through travelling; mainly for sparring. I am the only active pro boxer in Llanelli, so have to travel quite a lot.

Obviously, I do not want to give anything away on these forums, but the break has done me the power of good. When I turned pro in 94, the same fighters that were around that time are either retired, retiring or are on their last legs due to wear and tear. Because I have given myself that long break, I am able to continue.

Yes, last day, on the sauce at lunchtime, will probably make a few drunken posts this savvo before going for it with all the lads after work, it's going to be greedy.
