Calzaghe vs Johnson close?!?!

Post by stujones »

According to secondsout.com, Calzaghe vs Johnson is very close to being signed and delivered. I'm looking forward to this one happening.

I have to say, the light heavyweight devision is becoming a very good devision. I consider Johnson a very credible opponent, but he might possibily be the worse of the four champions - remembering he lost to Branco, Edrei looks very impressive and of course Roy Jones.

Stu,
My information is that this isn't remotely close - because the Promotor has made a derisory offer.
Now there's a shock.
This could blow up in their faces however.
There is a chance Roy Jones may turn his attention to Glencoffe.
Word is Jones doesn't want to know about Tarver.
If he drops Tarver - he loses the belt.
But will Jones Jnr care ?
For a Promotor seemingly able to bid $6.5 mill for a fight, he clearly counts the coppers when arranging fights (or rather missing fights) for Calzaghe.
Worst of all Johnson will come to Wales so saving Calzaghe a nose bleed if he has to leave the valleys.

If Calzaghe doesn't face Johnson, he's going to lose a lot of respect, I think I'll try and contact Joe Goosen...isn't that his promoter?

Personally, I have never thought for one second that Jones vs Tarver II will happen, but Jones vs Johnson will certainly not happen. I have respected Jones as a great buisnessman, but if he fights at light heavy again, he's doing his first major mistake.

I can see little point in Jones fighting Johnson, not a big money fight, has to make light heavyweight, and gains no prestige for beating Johnson.

I'd like to see Johnson v Tarver happen, Tarver won't be happy though, as he wants a big money fight, and the chance to get Jones again,

The jones tarver fight is May 15, so Calzaghe vs Johnson could be made end of May, early June
