Setanta - Warren House Fighters Only?

Post by Autobarn »

I know Warren is making more meaningful fights these days. I appreciate this. But I'm worrying that the quality of Setanta's boxing will be on the slide soon. Calzaghe stopped the rot, the losing streak of fighters trained by his dad. He's made some big inroads for himself in America for himself and for Amir Khan.

But there is boxing outside of Warren's stable. Will Setanta keep providing for the viewers as they have been or will they just get Frank shows from now on, since the contract was renewed/extended/ whatever up to 2010?

Looking at upcoming coverage, yes there are some big fights involving Brits. But what else is there? Is it just a quiet couple of months anyway, or are there any major fights that should have been included?

Judah v Mosley is being added.

No idea about Munoz v Mijares or DLH v Forbes (do we care).

That's bout it until Pacman v Diaz in June.

I remain convinced if a promoter goes to Sentanta with a good fight/show or a number of shows - Setanta will have the budget to go with it.

Hennessy won't as it is my belief he will court favour with ITV - especially if Witter and Froch win their next fights on that channel.

Maloney and Hearn will stay on Sky.

So its up to Fight Academy to make a couple of signings :TU: and other promoters to get in there.

True but i think the policy of picking up the best shows on offer works well. We have seen Warren set up stall on a few networks now and on SKY is descended into a chaos of dull fights for meaningless baubles.

Get the promoters offering the best shows on IMO

Hennessy you'd think is perfect for Sky. Traditional, competitive, purist boxing. No bullshit titles, good fights. Not many stars but a # of quality names in the stable. He has a variety of fighters - wonky and weird Froch & Witter; well schooled and compact Murray and Barker - that the hardcore fans are interested in. People who used to like boxing before WBO and WBU belts like the Hennessy shows.

What's happening to FA since Woods' IBF title run has been derailed? When will we see another good show from them?

Froch and Witter could generate primetime ITV viewers with the right opponent, but that limits them to 4 or 5 shows a year (with Fewkes,Murray, Barker doing the ITV4 stint) ,but ITV might be happy with that now that they're just cherry-picking the best shows

The attraction being that they don't have to go to Doncaster

Haye doesn't sell many tickets, but do you think plenty would tune in to see him fight on ITV??? of course they would

Spud,

Any ideas whats happend to FA's existing contract with Setanta.

I'm just wandering why they didn't showcase the recent Sheffield bill on a delay (it was clashing with Rees vs Kotelnik). I know it probably wasn't a TV worthy bill (no disrespect) but I thought Setanta were going to air their bills.

Chambers,
Fewkes is promoted by Maloney.
He's on the next Hennessy bill purely because Meaty Mick won the purse bids.

I remain convinced if Clinton fights on Fight Academy will have a show or 2 on Setanta - but it is blatantly obvious Dennis needs to make a couple of signings to bolster the stable - I am told they are on the way.

Yeah, I am sure he will - although there is a lot less appeal to a Clinton Woods show now he doesn't have the IBF belt. Could be hard to get the big fights global.... domestically, I'm sure the Oakey vs Francis winner would love it the chance, and I am sure that is a TV worthy fight.

I thought FA had an exclusive deal with Setanta, thats why the Benard Dunne vs Martinez bill was shown. I would like Setanta to cover even more boxing - they have 2 channels (and an Irish/News channel) - yet I see alot of repeats... would have been nice if the Sheffield bill was shown.

Stu,

I promise you there are a number of people from Setanta who read this forum - they will probably cringe at some of the comments - but comments like yours I am sure will be taken on board.

For instance their sports news channel has a boxing feature on it - I am not sure whether it is daily or what but its about boxing and thats what I care about - no other channel bothers its arse to do it.

Despite all the criticisms that come his way - I know for certain Steve Bunce is battling on behalf of the boxing fans - he drives the TV executives bloody mad with - "Why don't you do this" "Why don't you do that" - and that simply has to be FANTASTIC for the boxing fan!!!

I honestly believe the true boxing fan has to get behind Buncey - he really has a voice where it counts - this why I say lets get the criticisms constructive as yours are Stu - you and others bring out some good ideas and when they are written in a constructive manner I am positive they will have an effect.

I am delighted by the way this forum is kept to boxing or surrounds boxing in the last week or so - it means when these people from TV and the sport itself look in - they will see a forum that is full of constructive debate instead of personal abuse!!!!

Buncey, Rawling, Woodhall and lets just say some people who have a BIG say at Setanta do read this forum - I took a call straight after I got back from Vegas last year - albeit many months ago and the powers to be at Setanta wanted to know the various forums the majority of boxing fans congregated - b*llocks to those who say we know f*ck all - these forums have a say and people do on occasions take notice.

Shut up. If you pissed off then 90% of the abuse stops.

You can not help yourself, can you? ya condescending twit!

If Setanta continue showing GOOD boxing - I stay with them.

If Setants drop the boxing or lower the quality, I CANCEL.

Got that, Sultana???

Setanta and Bunce are great at the moment, long may it continue.
