Joan Guzman
Joan Guzman
i been keeping an eye on him ever since he won the WBO super bantam title on the Calzaghe-Jiminez undercard. He's terrific IMO. Can box,m can fight, alot of power and very tough.
Last night he beat his fellow Dominican Agapito Sanchez in 7 one sided rounds. Barrera, Pacquaio, Marquez amongst others have failed to KO Sanchez ye Guzman brutally beat him up from what i have read.
This guy is the best super bantam now, and i think he beats Pacquaio as well.

If ya nickname is Little Tyson you had better be able to fight!!
I too have monitored his progress since appearing on that Sports Network show and it would now appear his contractual problems are behind him we can look forward to some good match ups.
He is an eight and a half stone ball of fury. Can't wait to see him in with the other names in and around his weight class. :)

Don't think you can call him the best Super Bantam yet, I think Larinos holds that honour - got to give Larinos some dues, his next fight in in Asia against one of the many classy Asian fighters from this weight. The impressive Veeraphol (who I have seen) is fighting in the co-feature. Maybe Veeraphol vs Larinos is being negotiated - now that would be a contest.adamiw wrote:nah mine was 8 minutes earlierstujones wrote:Great minds hey Adam, we must have written that at the same time!![]()
did you see the fight then? do you reckon he can now be considered the best super bantam? And lik me do you feel he would beat Pacquaio as well?
I really don't know who I would pick between Larinos and Guzman, probably Guzman although Larinos has done nothing wrong as a champion and destroyed the tough Jorrin to win the belt. Paulie Ayalia is still a class act also, who should be back at SuperBantam.
I'm not saying Guzman can't beat them, infact I would favour him - just don't think he's done enough to warrant a higher ranking than these two yet - Sanchez was tough, but wasn't the best of champions.
No I didn't see the fight, but I have been chatting to US e-mail mates who were very impressed, fights a bit like Tyson in his total distain for the other guys abilities - as we saw in Cardiff.
Will he beat Pacquiao - before the Barrera fight I would have said yes, but now I am unsure as Manny was punch perfect against the P4P #2 fighter at the time.
You've just reminded me why I went for Sanchez. I feel a bit better now. Sanchez also went 12 rounds with Barrera and licked Juan Manuel Marquez - a fight after Marquez had stopped Steve Robinson over here. Good win for Guzman.adamiw wrote:Remember Agapito Sanchgez has a 5 round KO win against Larios. It's close between Oscar, Joan and of course Paulie Ayala. I just feel that Guzman is the best, although he hasn't achieved what they have.

Sounds a brutal win + he almost won in the first round!
Bennie, Marquez is the current WBA/IBF Featherchampion - he aint ever faught Stevo (thank god).bennie wrote:You've just reminded me why I went for Sanchez. I feel a bit better now. Your talking about Jaun Carlos Ramirez, that overated fighter that a faded Robinson was 1 round from beating. Ramirez may have lost to Sancez, but he got hammered by Bobby Boy Valderez.
