I once read something about how when a guy gets knocked out of the ring that they get a 20 count?

Yes, they do.

The ref's name was Alfred Asaro. Not sure what nationality that is, and I haven't seen the fight in a long time for obvious reasons and so I don't remember his nationality. Point being, either way, that you get bad referees wherever you go, regardless of nationality.

I think landing on the ring apron gets you ten, doesn't it? Falling clean out of the ring nets you twenty, I think that's right.

Makes you wonder why people in Casamayor's position recently against Katsidis don't simply give themselves that extra roll & fall for the additional ten seconds, assuming they have their faculties intact as they fall, which, obviously, isn't always the case.

Yeah. Marciano-Louis, for example, was a ten count.

I completely disagree. That fight was a horrible performance by a referee as I have ever seen. This is not "The Long Count Fight"...This was worse, my man.

I never saw this fight, and have no desire to now that I know what happened.

At the time, Wesley Mouzon told me that the ref was allowing Benn to land HEAVY rabbit punches throughout the fight.

And that they obviously added up in the end.

I am English and that night was obviously cheering for Nigel Benn. But I wholeheartedly agree with the views of everyone who says that Benn rabbit punched McClellan repeatedly during the fight. The fight should have been over in the 1st. But my own view is that Gerald McClellan was already in someway damaged before that fight.

The referee Alfred Asaro is French. He is still judging and refereeing now, although on his performance that night, you have to wonder how. Not only the long count in the first, the repeated rabbit punching from Benn, he also pushed McClellan away whenever breaking up the two fighters. Add to this an horrific head butt from Benn in the 9th which really was the beginning of the end for McClellan, and you say to yourself "did the referee do any officiating that night?"
