Skinniest ever fighter (lowest Weight/Height ratio)??

Post by Jaybee From The Castle »

Some of the Straws who stand 5'5" come to mind. Pacman himself fought most of '95 at 106.

Ok, let's quantify here:

Pac's weight, 106Ibs
Pac's height, 5'6", therefore 66".

Pac's Weight/Height ratio = 106/66 = 1.61

So, which fighters have a lower ratio?

Of course, this thread wouldn't be complete without Alfonso Brown --- a Bantamweight sitting a shade under six-foot. Forget the number of losses, a superb fighter...

Mike Castro was a flyweight/bantam who seldom went over 115 pounds and was reputed to be five ten.

Castro was Cuban national champion, promoted fights, owned a gym, trained flyweight Black Bill, became Cuba's best known ref and headed the Cuban Boxing Comission in the forties.

I see your question has already been answered, so I will only add this --- there is some dispute over Brown's height, the conventional measurement being 5'11", some do contend he was in fact 5'9 & one-half inches, though.

Either way, the point stands (as it were).

Some other unusually tall men for their divisions (to varying extremes)...

Alexis Arguello (Jr. Lightweight)
Bernard Hopkins (Middleweight)
Tommy Hearns (Welterweight)
Sandy Saddler (Featherweight)
Kelly Pavlik (Middleweight)
Diego Corrales (Featherweight)
Jermain Taylor (Middleweight)
Nikolai Valuev (Heavyweight)

Anyone remember Alvin Hayes?
He was a 6-1 lightweight out of Detroit.
He was one of the thinner fighters Ive seen.
He was a good fighter.
I looked up his biography here and he died of an apparent drug overdose at 44.
I didnt know that.

They are not tall at all, compared to Kingsley Ikeke (6'4").

..early in the 20th century there was a fighter named hairpin harry. i don't know how tall he was....he started boxing weighing under 100 pounds....so to get that nickname he must have been tall for his weight. he was elected to the jewish boxers hall of fame...maybe someone with time on his hands and energy to spare might google him...

i have a vague memory of a fighter who had fought out of cincinnati once with this nickname...don't recall enouch about him to know if he was the same fighter...
