Well, I'd give Jennings an outside shot against Quintana... however, looks like Quintana is fighting Williams again... think Williams will win, and don't give Jennings a snow balls against him.

As nice as he is, he stands no chance with either.

I think by the number of responses to this thread, the general feeling is that people don't really rate him at world level (he's not took on anybody who's remotely true world class). I'd say Jennings is just past British title level.

I note 'Gomez' (thread on best british fighters) rates the fighters based on
risk and successes. Jennings doesn't deserve to be so high in rankings as he's not took on a legitimate, world calibre fighter as yet. Many succeses, very little risk.

Michael Jennings is a better fighter than Gavin Rees. More rounded, technically good, good on his feet, big heart.

I think Jennings is underrated.

Granted, Paul 'Hightower' Williams and Carlos Santana are different propositions.

But he can box.

Jennings is quite a way past British level. He should be pushed along at a far quicker rate than is happening.

Not entirely sure that the fault for this can be placed at Jennings' door. It was an age after he fought Takaloo (and looked superb in doing so) before SN featured him again.

He is a graet lad and a phenomenal ticket seller. Hope that SN push him down the European route quickly.

I'd agree with David and Damien - he looks to be shy of true world class but theres no shame in that. I think he should aim for the Euro title then why not go for a world title shot? Admittedly I dont think he could beat any of the current champs or come close if Im honest but at least he could say he gave it go and then he could always drop down to Euro/British level. I think Mike is just reaching that point in his career where he wants to find out how good he really is and he could easily still be undefeated right now - so its not like he's found his level yet...

With no disrespect to Jennings, his last fight was a bit meaningless- just a lot of target practice. Sure, Jennings looked good and slick- a neat win, although an early stoppage.

But he needs to be moved towards more meaningful title fights now.

Jennings' beat Minter, who was a Southern area Champ. Minter gave him a lot of trouble and I think lost it due to his relative inexperience. Jennings was fighting mostly journeymen in his first 20 fights.

What I am saying is that Jennings' hasn't beat anybody of world class calibre. I agree that that is not Jennings' fault because they've not took any risks with him.

It's 'good money' for him and SN to defend his WBU title against domestic opposition (i.e British title level, Minter). Takaloo was shot and two judges had it very close (115-113 and 115-114), thought I thought Jennings won more clearly.

I'm being objective, and being a 'great lad and phenominal ticket seller'
doesn't make him world class in my eyes.

Beating someone lkike Luis Collazzo would.

If he's legit, he'd have no problems!!

Where did I claim 'world class status' for Jennings? :-?
I suggested that he is some way past British level and suggested that the European route was the way forward.

I agree that he has not fought anybody of a world class calibre and althouugh I thought that he looked sloppy at times versus Minter but when he turned it on, outclassed him. As for the Takaloo fight, he comprehensively beat him with a very good performance.

The ticket seller comment was to suggest that SN should have him fighting more regularly and progress him faster than they have done to date.

He is treading water, but the loss to Mutley put him a long way back and he has had to come again. I'd say he is now back where he was pre-Mutley.

Personally, I don't think he can beat the title holders at this weight, but Euro honours should be within his grasp.

He's a good fighter, but there must be a reason why they don't seem to have pushed him forward. If he sells tickets maybe it is in their interests to prevent him take on dangerous guys, who may beat him (i.e. Euro level).

I like the comment from Adam Booth trainer (after Maccerenelli fight) that the prospects should take on more risk, though I agree thoroughly that Jennings would be prepared to take on the risks.

I base my opinion on him being just past British title level, on the fact that he's only beaten domestic opposition (Minter, Pryce etc) and lost to Young Muttley who was well beaten by Euro level fighter Colin Lynes.

Takaloo versus Small was one of the biggest mismatches I've seen for a long time and sickening at times. As per previous entry, Jennings won a close decision on 2 judges scorecards.

He's ready for a Euro fight, which is an intermediate step between British and World honours.

Do you believe he should be ranked in WBO top 10, based on his opposition so far?

No, but when did anyone trust the WBO rankings to be an accurate reflection of reality?

It's hard to say if he can mix in woprld class as, to date, he's not really fought anybody of that kind of calibre.

Well, the near to be deciding which way to take him soon-ish. I'd say the European title is well within his ability- no harm in trying.

For me Mike is easily the most talented welter in the country bar none. I also think he fully deserves as much praise as he can get. He is a fantastic 'boxer' who uses movement and his jab much better than some of the more 'name' fighters in this country! I'd like to see him in with Bonsu for the euro title and then a crack at a world title. He might be found wanting but i'll be fully behind him rather than just absent mindedly slating his chances like some on this thread. I think he could even win a version of the title. He is exciting and interesting to watch, has great fans and support, sells tickets and seems a quality bloke. Good luck to him.
