The Big If

I dunno if this has been covered before but I have just completed reading Rick Broadbent's excellent biography of Johnny Owen and would thoroughly recommend it.

I am too young to have seen Owen fight but what are people's recollections of him?

i remember johnny, a man deceptively strong for his build and with great stamina, showed grit it many fights but had a great engine and used to wear opponents down, it was hard to imagine where his strength and stamina came from, all in all a big hearted man, who did wales and britain proud and payed the biggest price of all.

RIP johnny owen

I was too young to remember Johnnny live - but have seen videos and I echo Rhino's word.

Only consolotation I can get from such a tragic situation, is that Johnny died doing the thing he loved.

thats right, unfortunately a pm revealed a genetic fault with the thickness of his skull, was much thinner than normal, shame that todays technology was not available in those days, johnny would be still alive

I read about this in the book. Did a lot of the modern mediacl care come about due to the scanadlous lack of medical care in LA on the night?

By the way, if the thickness of his skull had been discovered, he wouldn't have even been able to start his career though.

exactly, he would never have boxed......but would have been alive. im sure his family would have prefered that, but im sure johnny would have chosen the route he took...

better to be a 'has been' than a 'never will be' ....
