Your opinion on the UK boxing scene right now?

Ok im sitting here having read the latest Boxing monthly and i am a little depressed at the lack of future talent there seems to be in our rankings....Am I being harsh or is our domestic scene distinctly lacking any star quality at the moment?

I hope im just being unfair but I dont see many bright stars just yet.

Im especially depressed when I read their British Heavyweight rankings and Lewis (now retired) has been replaced by Sprott!!

No disrespect intended but its a bloody shock....

Please tell me im wrong??

It's not all bad. Granted the heavyweight division is so poor i want to cry, but there is the odd prospect about.
Kevin Mitchell has had a great start to his career.
Steve Foster could go a long way.

Its not as good as it was a few years ago (when I think we could boast as many as nine WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO world champions). However, there as some potential out there - the likes of Michael Hunter, Dale Robinson, Esham Pickering and a few others are coming through - and we have got some exciting times ahead with Ricky Hatton.

Shite is a bit harsh, but its as poor as I can remember - also I do have a gripe with the current trend in styles. It all seems to be based on strength and who can throw the most punches, boxing is much more than that - that's why I have so much respect for Cory Spinks.

Lets see some fighters with some headmovement, or guys who don't mind fighting on the back foot.

James Hare! Yes, I do really like him - such punch form, and excellent timing - in some ways the "lord of the mannor" reminds me of the self-styled "lord of the mannor" (Eubank) in his timing and shot selection - although Hare never throws that desperation overhand right which Eubank occasionally did.

Thought he was going to get to proper world honours, but I do worried about his defence and durability, the signs of "he's found his level" where there in the fight before his defeat. Just needs to tighten it up, or even just roll with the punches ala Eubank.

In Cory Spinks though, there is a fighter who's a little bit special, and a class above Hare.

Eamomn Magee is another fighter who style I like - a thinking fighter and opposed to a "be first" fighter. With my limited experience seeing kids in gyms - that's all their taught is "be first" its not good for the future in the game and amateur coaches need to be assessed more strictly.

Their all old greedy b****rds that run the amatures. its in big trouble. i was an england representative and i OFTEN found myself out off pocket! think that would of been the case if i was boxing for America? it needs a good shake up pal.
