Avenmar has a good record, he fought at a time when the Lightheavyweight division was overflowing with talent. I guess by his record and what I can remember being written about him that he was a rugged type of fighter with a good punch and good chin. He fought the great Victor Galindez six times and came away with a 3-3 record from those encounters, which is impressive... even though he met Galindez early on in Victors career. Avenmar also fought Jorge Ahamada 3 times, winning one and losing two. Other good names on Avenmars record are Peirre Fourie, Tom 'The Bomb' Bethea, Vincente Rondon and Connie Velsake. Over all Avenmar looks to have been a good contender (I have a Ring magazine from 1972 listing him at number 9) during a time when the Light-heavies were full of talent and never quite reached the top or got a title shot, but thats no disgrace because of the high quality of the opposition of the times he was in. Height wise I don't know how tall he was but doubt that he'd have been over 5 feet 10 or 11.
Could be Gregorios brother, I will try to read up something about him and get back to you Kovit. In 1977 Avenmar fought Billy Aird in London so I shall track down the paper for that time and see the info it gives on him... (he won fight by disq). Looks like Avenmar went up to heavyweight in the latter part of his career... but was on the slide by then.
