It was nice. You dont always see that type of relationship in boxing.

I remember seeing Perkins fight at the Olympic in 1959 he fought Hilario Morales and in 1961 he fought L.C. Morgan.
Those were good fights, though he lost to Morgan, he still looked good, when he fough those two fights you could tell Perkins was not in his prime yet, the best was yet to come, great fighter? don't know about that, but he was a good, good fighter, who won't have much of a problem cleaning up on the 140 pounder's that we have today.

Bennie, I should add that Frank Tommaso and Johnny Lira got along real well.
It was alot of fun being around the two of them.
I remember another Lira story.
One time the trainer of a club fighter named Emilio Sotomayer started bugging Lira about taking a match with Emilio.He felt Johnny was past it .
You could see Lira starting to get steamed.
Finnaly he looked at the trainer and said why dont we just do it for free right now?
That was the end of the disscusion.

Lira was really close to a 'shot' at Jim Watt at one point; I remember reading that Lira has bullets lodged in him.
Can you imagine him at airports?

I met Peter Falk that nite at the Sports Arena, (11-10-1972) and he wasn't wearing the brown mac from "Columbo" he was just a bit better dress... 8)

I was talking to somebody the other day about the movie The Godfather.
I asked the guy what is one of the main things you notice in the scenes in that movie.
He said something like the guns, violence, whatever.
I said no man, one thing that stands out is how many scenes have kids running around.

Your Pal was so right about that. Without the kids and grandkids we're bums. I've been in situations where you give it some thought about leaving and then you see your kids playing and you think what would happen. The problems for them,the resentment,and in the the end I'd feel like the ultimate betrayer. I know of grandparents that panic when they hear that their son or daughter is going to relocate to another state and take the kids. Like I was saying about that Boxres Father/Son Lunch,part of the enjoyment was Frank not hesitating to ask me and my wife to his table with his family. His sons and son in law,his daughter,daughter in law,grandson,and his beautifull wife. His grandson was sitting next to his wife. Can't beat that.

In THe Godfather did you notice that Don Corleone had his family living in the same compound? That is very common. It's common in Mexico too. If not, the families live within a few blocks or miles from each other. You are very astute Pug. You sure there wasn't an Italian milkman in your neighborhood when you were young?

I know Floyd would come up out of a crouch and leap to throw his left hook.

I never knew he leaped throwing a right hand though.

Can you imagine if you caught him in the air with a punch of your own while he was doing that?

On a more serious note, I once read that Carmona took a real bad beating in this fight. Is this true, and does anyone know how he is today? I know his son later challenged Raul Perez for the world bantamweight title and it got me thinking about Chango.

Carmona did take a beating from Gonzalez, the last I heard he was doing ok.

Good news. Rodolfo hardly looks marked in that photo.

I met diego and his wife at the father and son luncheon and found both to be down to earth people, as I know you are too, you guys are my kind of people.

Yeah, we haven't met face to face, but we have talk on the phone and I know what you look like..
