Shannan Taylor

Post by madball1982 »

Is he competing with Mundine to be the biggest joke in Aussie boxing or something? His next opponent is 7-5?
It seems that everyone he's been fighting over the last couple of years has had a crappy record that will do nothing for him except pad his record some more?

Taylor has been finished for a long time... Mundine should be in touch with his manager about a bout soon...

Good call, what about Les Shervington I think the last "defence" was against a fighter with a 2-3 record and before that it was 0-7 ?

Les and Shannon have their places in Australian boxing. They will be good tests for up-and-comers now and in years to come. Shannon is indeed finished, but I hope he sticks around for a while. Les has a crack in his next fight, but I fear he we will be found wanting. Every country needs better than journeyman boxers to help the next generation through. Unless these guys (moreso Shannon than Les) spruik they are going to win world titles then they should be given some credit for the service they perform.

Very thoughtful responce, and I wd have to agree that fighters are needed at every level, prospects, journeymen, champions, etc.
Shannon has had a shot, and has been out of his depth every time, it wd appear thats Les s people understand his limitations and match him accordingly. BUt he does hold the National title and should fight others that at leats have a winning record.

I agree that journeymen and "gatekeepers" are needed in each division, but what shits me about Taylor is that he still talks like he's gonna be world champ everytime I hear or read an interview with him (ala Mundine).
Sure Taylor is finished, but with his experience he should be fighting a better quality of fighter.
A champion whether it be Aussie, OPBF, WBA Pan-Pacific or whatever title it may be should not be fighting fighter's with losing records IMO

If he turned down a bout against Dawson, there is no way he will mix it with Geale or even Pittman.

Yet a Taylor bout against any of these three younger fighters would show just where these blokes are at the moment and what direction their careers can go and whom they can mix it with.

Maybe this is what Shannon has seen in the room of mirrors as really there is only one direction left for him - a journeyman's slow and painful slide down the rankings.

Could not agree more with your last line, Champions should not be fighters with lossing reords, unless of course he is a Fred Pendleton or Lionel Butler who had more losses than wins, but were world class.

Taylor has retired more times than Nellie Melba. It is about time he meant it.
