I do not remember this fight or its build up, until after it happened.
What was the sense of feeling for some of you leading up to this fight.

golota was thought to have a good shot against his fights with bowe. there probably hasn't been another fighter that got a title shot off of 2 dq losses. i remember before the fight started i picked lennox to win a close fight. i was wrong about that. golota has to have the worst mental makeup of any athlete ever. his career is painful to look at.Knucklez wrote:Most Americans, probably.Robinson wrote:I do not remember this fight or its build up, until after it happened.

Re: Lewis Vs Golota
Can't really blame them for thinking he had a shot. He made Bowe his own personal punching bag, legally and illegally. What people didn't know was how mentally fragile he had become after those 2 fights.Knucklez wrote:Most Americans, probably.Robinson wrote:I do not remember this fight or its build up, until after it happened.

Going into the fight Golota had impressed with his performances against Bowe.
But Lewis was a different fighter altogether.
The America media had been kissing Bowe's behind for the longest time, I felt that Lewis was very underated and could knock Bowe out let alone Golota.
I think I picked Lennox to knock him out somewhere between the 3rd and 5th rounds.
Obviously I got that wrong but I felt there was no way Golota would make it through 8 let alone 12 rounds with Lewis.

..i knew golata was nuts way back then...and i predicted that something nutty would happen and he'd lose....either for fouling or quitting on his stool when he wasn't hurt....or something. he didn't dis appoint me...but his not showing up at the arena until something like a hour before the fight was something i didn't expect, though i wasn't surprised a wonderful nut case....and nut cases need someone to cheer for too.

The win looked much more impressive at the time than in retrospect. Bowe had been seen by the wide majority as the man following the Holyfield rubber match, and despite the DQs Golota really layed a whupping on Bowe when they fought, so Golota was seen as a possible heir apperent if he could ever mentally get it together. But as we know that never happened. Rumors abound that Golota was on some sort of drugs prior to the fight and didn't even want to come out of the dressing room, they literally had to shove him out to the ring-walk.
