Its only the yanks can produce this kind of heavyweight - Nobles, Lawrence Clay Bey - There was this chap called Alvin Manley who must have looked 300lbs but could move around a ring and fire off rapid shots!
Fantastic!

Nobles reminds me of Timm Witherspoon and they share the same bowling style of punch like an overarm bowling method - very effective because if it lands its game over!

Once Cuba becomes a capitalist society and it will be the end of these boring Eastern Euorpeans! :TU: They are dull as shit!

A Nation with what, a thousand million people, has to have a really hard bastard in the wings somewhere. At the moment the East is enjoying a run of success which used to belong to America. My bet is, it wont be too long before a new name emerges from America that will flatten the lot. Maybe a black fighter fom Philly with a deprived background and a huge amount of attitude, a second comming of Mike Tyson. Maybe an American/Italian, Marciano type, who knows. Of course the potential is there and America will produce a really big HW name sooner or later. The problem is can we, I dont see a Lennox Lewis or a Frank Bruno comming through and none of our established big lads apart from maybe David Haye are going to make it. Still not convinced Haye will be able to conquer the HW division as he did the CW. Herbie Hide found it tough. You never know though they can suddenly appear from nowhere.

Boxings is dying in America for my money, less kids get into boxing, basketball and Amercian Football bringing the bigger money and less life threatening careers. Not only that but the trainers and the old school skills are dying out, Tyson and a few others mention this

I agree that boxing is probably dying out in the African-American community and African-American males are deciding to go down basketball/football/baseball route but boxing is still the no1 sport amongst males in the Hispanic-American community.

Mexicans and Puerto Ricans though they are getting bigger and taller aren't big nor tall enough on average yet to partake in the big money earners of American sport ie: football and basketball.

I think in the next 20 years we will see more Hispanic-American heavyweights coming to the fore - if the most promising of the bunch at the moment - Chris Arreola - will do anything remains to be seen, but I don't think boxing is dying in America but the demographic has shifted once again like it did in the 1940s-50s from the Italians and the Irish and the Jews to the African Americans.

.

I think a huge number of them are more into music now & trying to be rappers. They want to sit on a huge industry like Jay Z, not train and sweat and get hit in the face.

Difficult to say.

He def rocked Valuev and could hurt him.

The DQ was pathetic, everytime he hit him in the gut it was a 'low blow'.

Shame it seemed to end his career, a frickin hard scary guy.

Probably getting too old now.

That's the one. So good I forgot his name immediately. Might watch him again.

My type of fighter for certain occasions. So boring you can roll one up without missing any action.
Johnson definatly has talent, a sharp jab that could set up some right hands, if only he throw some rights.
He must be a nightmare to train, because he just isn't willing to take anything to get his shots off. Against Terry Smith he had the opportunity to impress on national TV, but didn't really take it, Smith is an honest pro, but he has got really slow and is made for decent prospects on the way up. Johnson was content to just do enough to make sure of victory. Not good enough really.

For me the best of the Americans is Chris Arreola, who has a very interesting fight next against Chazz Witherspoon , this will sort out if both boxers are the future or are pretenders.

Yes, Arreola looks good, nice workrate and aggression, and doesn't look scared of getting hit and seems to hold a shot pretty well.

Doesn't look a particularly big puncher though, which means he will be in some hard fights against the bigger guys in the division.

Arreola could give poor old Keith Long a run for his money in the beauty stakes..

A slimmed down Chris Byrd is interviewed in the clip below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoKTFcNm_Vc

At 37 he looks like he has lost quite a bit of weight and is to debut at Light Heavy.

Interesting to hear that he didnt want to go to cruiser because his mate 'USS' Cunningham is the top dog there.

Has Chris got anything left to offer at 12st 7lb? Will be interesting to see how he looks at the weight.

He also reveals he is now part of Team Couture out in Vegas. The MMA guys will benefit greatly from his slick boxing skills - they should learn alot from Byrd.

Here is some recent footage of some very sedate sparring from the old slickster:

then your money wont go very far...especially if you listen to non-credible sources like supreme talent-waster mikey tyson!! what do you expect a washout of wasted potential like tyson to say after the way he has frittered away his money AND his fistic opportunities!! :(

the HWs are clearly on the downside for the foreseeable future but american boxing is in the midst of the biggest boxing upturn so far in this century!! having 2 boxers whose 2007 earnings were surpassed ONLY by the greatest golfer in history has clearly jump-started the game & fights where the best fight the best have been proliferating since june 2007 and continuing on into 2008!!

waste no pity on us...the sweet science will be fine among the ranks of athletes too small to make the relatively easy money that basketball & football offer!! super middle in particular is teeming with future stars like andre dirrell, marcus johnson, andre ward, peter quillen & eventually joe greene & a host of others!! :box:
What a load of BS, who are the up and comers? Who are the top americans who have come to light since 2000? There doesnt seem to be any in any weight class

Richard Carmack might be one to keep an eye on, he was a decent amatuer at Junior level, still only 19.
