Khan's next opponent on 21 June......
I'm told Khan will face Michael Gomez in Birmingham.
Thoughts on this fight please?
I think it's a terrible fight, Gomez was a shot fighter a few years back and only gets this on name value.

Hang on a second, before you start hanging Wazza - Khan has split from his trainer, has one fight left on his deal with Wazza, intimates he's gonna be self promoted, is clearly an accident waiting to happen, thinks he's the second coming - need I say more ?
Hang the f out to dry I say and do him fornicate all favours.
It's 100-1 but I hope Mikey smashes him inside two rounds.

I hope Mikey beats him to he needs a reality check i agree they do have a second coming arrogance about them. Gomez will come in bombs away but will be picked off.twenty six wrote:Hang on a second, before you start hanging Wazza - Khan has split from his trainer, has one fight left on his deal with Wazza, intimates he's gonna be self promoted, is clearly an accident waiting to happen, thinks he's the second coming - need I say more ?

Interesting to see if they move to 140 cos if you look at the Lightweight division it's getting stacked Pacquiao-Diaz, Campbell-Marquez, Casamayor-Diaz, etc leaves Khan without a dance partner
Yeah it's not like Warren is going to bring in Nate Campbell - who incidentally has no one to fight til Nov it seems - and then see Khan do a Hatton.
Also it's not like Warren is going to bring in a risky opponent where Khan looks bad - because if Khan does leave him (and I'm not sure he will) after that fight, it might make Warren look bad.
Won't Warren want to be in position to promote Amir for another 3 fights after this one and then maybe deliver a world title fight on the 3rd fight?

Agreed will be a blowout for Khan and a pointless exercise in his development. But I still can't understand all the hate for Khan - he's only 21 with only 17 fights and is obviously talented - why don't people get behind him. Okay he's a bit cocky - but thats no reason to want to see a genuine prospect get knocked out!steve689 wrote:Gomez brings comedy value if nothing else. He will be competetive and dangerous for the first round and then get dismantled and beaten up by the third.
It's going to be one heck of a bridge to cross when he ever does fight Campbell.
You'd think at least there'd be more St Clair level opponents than Graham Earl level opponents (good British name, but already beaten up).
With Amir you have a promoter who wants to take things slowly and you have the family that want to rush him. There seems to be no middle ground - sensible, building fights - which is a shame really.

I think the problem is the gulf between the hype and the reality. The harsh reality is that, according to BoxRec's rankings, the highest ranked lightweight Khan has fought to date is Willie Limond. He is currently ranked 55 in the world and came very close to de-railing the Khan bandwagon. Kristjansen, despite his WBO ranking, is ranked number 70. It's shocking but true: Khan has not fought a lightweight who, in current independant rankings, would be in the top 10, 20, 30..... .
According to this week's BN, his handlers say he has now gone beyond European level. Nothing could be further from the truth. He has fought no-one approaching the calibre of Romanov (who has just relinqued the title). IMO, the version of Graham Earl he fought does not qualify as Euro level. This is the reason for the so-called "hate". They talk of world titles and opponents such as Diaz, Campbell, Casa et al. and then line up the likes of Kristjansen and, possibly, Gomez.

I agree with you there, the opposition of Khan is questionable. A Gomez fight is a huge step backward and talk of fighting for a world title without having fought a world-class lightweight is laughable. But I still think given the right fights Khan is capable of fighting for and winning a genuine lightweight world title but not in the time frame he's set himself. I mean Nate Campbell is hardly unbeatable - give Khan 5 more tough fights and I'll go as far to say he'd beat Campbell. But thats given we see what he's made of in genuine testing fights - he needs to be put in with a banger to see if the questions about his chin are justified or not.chesh wrote:black panther wrote:Agreed will be a blowout for Khan and a pointless exercise in his development. Khan is a good athleat with fast hands and a few technical deficiancies which he should be learning out. He is not the finnished artical and could do with comming to terms with that rather than worrying about a world title shot by 21 or what ever.
He needs to concerntrate on what he is good at and making sure the wheels don't come off. I think he would do well to fight people who can bang a bit as it will give him a couple of shocks and tighten up his guard but I don't get why people hate him, he seems as nice as any boxer who on the whole have to be arregent otherwise they end up as danny williams plagued with self doubt types.

Oh and if it is gomez I think he is a good opponent for Khan at this stage if we ignore the hype that has gone before about him, Gomez will hit hard and be able to teach him some old man tricks. I would like to see him try for a european fighter in his next 3 though.josh fg wrote:Khan is a good athleat with fast hands and a few technical deficiancies which he should be learning out. Hang the f out to dry I say and do him eff all favours.

You do have a good point but I believe Graham Earl was in the Boxrec top 20 when he fought Khan.chesh wrote:I think the problem is the gulf between the hype and the reality. yeah that would be just great for British boxing wouldn't it (being ironic).Spud wrote:I agree with this post entirely.twenty six wrote:Hang on a second, before you start hanging Wazza - Khan has split from his trainer, has one fight left on his deal with Wazza, intimates he's gonna be self promoted, is clearly an accident waiting to happen, thinks he's the second coming - need I say more ?

I did specify "currently" ranked. Earl is currently ranked 64. At the time of the Khan fight, I don't think his ranking accurately reflected the damage sustained from the Katsidis pummeling.Asterix wrote:You do have a good point but I believe Graham Earl was in the Boxrec top 20 when he fought Khan.chesh wrote:I think the problem is the gulf between the hype and the reality. The reality is that Gomez would last about as long as Earl, if that.Spud wrote:I agree with this post entirely.twenty six wrote:Hang on a second, before you start hanging Wazza - Khan has split from his trainer, has one fight left on his deal with Wazza, intimates he's gonna be self promoted, is clearly an accident waiting to happen, thinks he's the second coming - need I say more ?

And why do people want him to get smashed? Besides the Harrison situation he seems a nice kid. He's British and a top prospect.
Strange......
...he's nowhere near as bad as Naz was! Or pretty much any Yank...

Yeah, cannot understand it either... and we are getting one side of the Harrison situation.Captain Hook wrote:The reality is that Gomez would last about as long as Earl, if that.Spud wrote:I agree with this post entirely.twenty six wrote:Hang on a second, before you start hanging Wazza - Khan has split from his trainer, has one fight left on his deal with Wazza, intimates he's gonna be self promoted, is clearly an accident waiting to happen, thinks he's the second coming - need I say more ?
