Things would be so much better if these buggers had to actually EARN their ranking. By going in a tough eliminator. By fighting proper good opponents. ppl have it way too soft with the WBO in this country and it just means that when you get the title you're not equipped to defend the belt and you have to wait 17 defences til you fight anybody.

Because Guys like Spud are Chums with Harrison, whenever something unsavory happens, his views on the Boxer will Change dramatically.

I still remember before the Earl and Claire fights how Spud would "Supoort" khan..

Funny how views change so drastically

Firstly, I don't think one loss would be a failure, especially if it came at a decent level; say Casamayor or Diaz for example. Secondly, I don't think Khan is the only boxer who might be capable of "crossing over" - Davi Haye, for a start...

I'll support Khan, because he is good boxer - whether he is a knob or not is irrespective. I haven't met the fella, and not likely to ever meet him. Aslong as Khan continues to respect his opponents and fellow proffesionals (retired or not) - then I will want him to do well - and that is not because he is British, but because I rate him as a boxer.

Sure if he commits callous malicious acts out of the ring (ala Davy Hilton, Mike Tyson etc) then of course, I don't want them to succeed. But so far anyway, Khan hasn't done that.

If Khan wants to piss away his talent on a celebrity lifestyle - then that is his choice - but he WILL get found out, just like the vast majority do - Kirklaind Laing, Don Curry etc.

To question someones knowledge based on his lack of knowledge on the stuff that goes on the outside, or general lack of interest in the politics is wrong. For me, someone who shows boxing knowledge is Jim Watt - clued up as far as spotting weaknesses, spotting things a fighter does well, seeing when a fighter is tired, assessing their psychology, making correct prediction... not if he/she knows why Khan left Harrison.

We are only getting one side of the story also.

David Haye- maybe. But still, 9 out of ten people at work - ie none boxing fans, wouldn't have a clue who he was. Whereas most people do know of Khan.

Amen to that...

If Amir Khan loses he'll have to dust himself off and come back.

Pointless thread.

And Spud again managed to get another personal story in, you'd think he was the only bloke on this site who'd ever been to a bloody match!

There is so much which goes into boxing - boxing politics, the hype and what goes on behind the scenes has gone on in boxing for years and years and the more and more money which has come into it has made it even more intriguing.

And as for your carrying bags quip - f*ck me I wish you were there giving me a hand when I went to Monte Carl twice and Vegas 3 times - it was a right bitch!!!
what do you want a medal - i wouldnt Degrade myself by carrying anybody in the worlds bags - ive got far too much selfrespect and a LIFE

UMmmmm you claim to love the sport so much - I bet you would turn down free trips and expenses paid to some of the best locations in the world and when you got back to the UK you would also turn down the opportunity to work on some of the best shows and you would also turn down the opportunity to meet the very people you enjoy boxing so much.

Yeah of course you would - whoops sorry - I must be wrong - just for a tadge then I mistook you for being a jealous c*nt - and as for carrying bags - UMmmmmmm - You forgot making the tea!!!

Now f*ck off to bed jealous c*nt - next please!!!

You are coming across as a right prick mate, simmer down.

I'll be honest - I think Spud deserves his trips abroad and whatever money he makes brewing tea for the managment. I wouldn't do that job for a gold clock.

I always remember being backstage and being amongst a famous stable whose fighters were all present - talk about egos! Christ - you couldn't pay me to work amongt that lot - what a bunch of tossers - exceptions to the rule were Esham Pickering, Ryan Rhodes and Jason Collins, they were nice lads! :TU: However the more mediocre the boxer - the bigger his ego or so it seemed!

I'm not picking out that stable as exceptional - I'm sure the same thick, egotistical halfwits are all over the fight game - I'm just glad I can take of it what I want and leave the rest of it where it belongs.

Spud, Boxingchat etc - I wouldn't trade places with you lads for a billion quid!

Khan winning Olympic Silver brought a lot of public interest. ITV staged the Kindalin rematch, which Khan won, and realised they were onto a massive winner with viewing figures. Khan is therefore the reason for boxing on ITV. FW had problems with other fighters on his bills, Scott Harrison and Matt Skelton spring to mind, and also that rubbish card with Calzaghe top of the bill, and therefore ITV lost interest. They also wanted Haye/Macca which they didnt get. Frank lost his exclusive contract and ITV cut back on their coverage of the sport. Khan while he wins is the main boxing attraction and is better known to to general public than even Hatton is. Witter and Froch could also become household names, because of ITV coverage, if all goes well for them and they get good results. At the moment we just dont know how well Witter and Froch will go down with the public, but we do know the public will tune in for a Khan fight. As long as Khan doesnt piss off to Setanta for more money, sack Warren or lose a fight, ITV will follow his career and boxing will remain on ITV. Khan has the most recognizable face and name as far as the general public are concerned. Like it or not he has revived interest in British boxing and he has stepped into the shoes of Naz, Benn and Eubank as far as the public interest is concerned. We may follow the whole scene but the public doesnt. They follow who fights on ITV or BBC not Setanta or Sky, they are there for the dedicated sports fans. You can have 30 fights on Sky and be World champion and the public dont know who you are. Ask any ordinary member of the public to name a British fighter and my bet is they would say, Amir Khan.

This might be a little of topic but since everyone is having a little banter i thought i would say something. IMO all boxers regardless of who you are or what you achieved in the amatuer scence should have to take the same route. I believe all boxers should have to fight for a domestic title then at least a european title before been allowed to fight for a world title. You should start from the bottom and make your way up. I know in todays day and age all you have to do is have a few easy fights and be given a world title shot. You can all ridicule me for posting this but i just wanted to share my opinion.

It makes sense to me and tests a fighters ability at every level. The problem is WBU/WBF titles and too many titles in general.

People make me laugh!!! - all too quick to yet again make things personal with me - but yet I am not allowed the right to reply - double standards spring to mind!!!

Again I would like to emphasise and perhaps to a point agree with "Observer" - He states or insuate that I have got personal towards Khan as I am "paly" with Oliver Harrison - he is completely correct there is no point me avoiding that issue. What would you do if someone was very good to you and you found out from an entirely neutral source that someone you regarded very highly had in your opinion been right royally shafted!!!

I really wanted Amir Khan to do well - yep for the sake of the sport the likes of Khan doing well would give it an even bigger lift - but Oliver Harrison has not got a bad bone in his body and I have no problems in stating I regard him highly and as such you are dam right it rapidly changes my view on wanting Amir Khan to do well.

Tell me something Forum - lets get controversial now - If Amir Khan loves the UK so much and all the b*llocks thus far in his career is not just empty propaganda and he loves the UK so much - why does he have to turn to another country to find a trainer to get him where he wants - its him that has turned on the patriotism tap to get the fans and media on side - now suddenly the UK and its trainers may not be good enough for Amir!!! - why not Amir??

What has his choice of trainer and where they cme from got to do with Khans patriotism?

I don't get that, Klitsckho, Andy Lee I'm sure are still proud to be Ukrainian and Irish respectively even though they have Emmanuel Steward in their corner.

Why is Khan any less British because he has an American trainer?

Would you question Ricky Hattons allegiances if he was trained by Buddy McGirt?

I doubt it and I wonder why? :TU:

Wheres E(noch) when you don't need him!

Spud, I find your posts completely embarrassing.

Are you at all self-aware? Your posts are about 20% boxing and 80% arse-licking whoever you're currying favour with!

Reading through several threads you rarely give an unbiased or well-rounded view.

For example....:

"Did I mention when I was in Vegas that I tripped over Arnie's shoe - Arnie sends me texts ha ha ha - anyway, I tripped over his shoe but it's ok because my old pal Dean Powell caught me.....my, we did laugh.
Then I carried on walking and saw Earnie Shavers...we reminisced about the time I was sat outside Dean Pithie's house having made his sandwiches, Dean loved lemon curd....anyway, I digress, I was sat on the bus with Billy Graham, and I told him to f*** off, seriously, I said "Billy, you're my mate so I can tell you to f*** off"...and then I got off the bus, and guess who was driving, Geoff McCreesh.....and we had a laugh about the time I slept with his auntie Pat, after she'd chosen me over Gary Stretch"........and it goes on...
