Hi Guys
Just a note that the Hagler-Hamsho II fight was scheduled for 15 rounds and not 12 rounds as the forum indicates. Recall that the WBA/IBF still had 15-rounds at that time. The WBC had 12 rounds since Jaunary of 1983, but was ammendable to a compramise when Hagler defended all three title belts. The WBC even allowed Hagler-Sibson to be fought at 15-rounds because contracts for a fight of that length had already been signed. Hagler had defenses at 15-rounds against Roberto Duran in November 1983 and Juan Roldan in 1984 under WBA rules. When there was a unified belt-holder the alphabet federations would take turns being the main sanctioning body for the fight.
But, when Hagler rematched with Hamsho in 1984, he was the WBC #1 contender and mandatory. Hagler had to fight Hamsho at 12-rounds or be stripped. Hagler signed for 15 rounds for the rematch, the WBC stripped him the day after the fight. Sulaiman and committee reinstated Hagler about a month later on the condition that future WBC mandated defenses be scheduled for 12 rounds. These were the distances for Hagler's next three fights, which included Tommy Hearns, (1985) John "The Beast" Mugabi, (1986) and Sugar Ray Leonard (1987)
