Hi ,U see, my dad love’s Sugar ray

, he tills me all about sugar ray he say` s (son he is a great and classic boxer

) and (no one can throw combo’s like him

) and ( he is the best Middleweight ever

) by the way, my dad is 58 now, he was a boxer for the ABA (ARMY BOXIG AGNATION). Any way I would love to hire your opinion!!

Your dad's got good taste. You'll find plenty of respect for Sugar Ray everywhere. He is without question one of the greatest fighters ever.
Most people would have him right at the top as far as pound for pound ratings go. If you can, get some tapes of his fights (especially the last La Motta fight or his fights against Olson or Turpin).

there was a documentary on at some ridiculous hour on c5 lat week on sugar ray it was very very entertaining keep your eyes peeled as c5 tends to repeat such things.

Two words to describe Sugar Ray: Best Ever.
He was the perfect combination of speed, power & ring artistry ever. Great footwork along with the stamina & heart to go 15 rounds. Threw his combinations with blinding speed and immaculate timing.

I think it was his fight with Gene Fullmer (i'm not sure), where he hit Fullmer with what was later described as the "best punch ever thrown". Fullmer was moving forward with Ray going backwards defending into a corner, then all of a sudden SRR just transfers his weight from his back foot to front foot and throws this beautiful left hook catching fullmer right on the chin. I've seen it on tape and the punch is so well-timed that it simply looks as though he's gliding past fullmer as he collapses. Simply awesome. Fullmer is out for the count.

After the fight fullmer says "I didn't see it, I didn't hear it & I didn't feel it".

So maybe now you can get a measure of how good he was. You're father knows what he's talking about.

Ray robinson was with out doubt excellent.

Though to use Gene Fullmer to prove your point is not the best.
Fullmer was very successful against Sugar Ray to say the least.

Yeah, that's a good point, I think he dropped him with that punch to regain the middleweight title which he lost to fullmer the first time around.
