Froch did the business but no chance In hell he ever beats Joe, he dropped his hands head hunting and telegraphs that uppercut that guy let land. :o

Was Hopkins fast? Was he hell, but he came within a whisker of beating Calzaghe.
Hopkins has two things Carl doesn't ((or at least hasn't had to be seen yet)

1. Lightning boxing smarts
2. Deceptive quickness

Hopkins is a fairly quick, sharp fighter. Froch loads up way too much.

I doubt that Froch would be foolish enough to load up against Calzaghe or Kessler for that matter.

I'd like to see Froch get his shot.

Froch will be Hennessy's tool to get back on ITV I reckon.

Carl can bang and he can talk. He's the only 1 of the TV fighters (Brits) who looked happy and sharp coming in to his fight.

Let's see him vs someone for a vacant title. Calzaghe wil likely vacate. Personally I trhink if Joe moves down he'll weaken himself and be vulnerable. Would love to see Froch spark him but I'll settle for Froch-Pascal or whatever.

Looks like Kessler is going for the WBA.

Was reading that he could be taking the winner of Zuniga vs Pascal next. That would be good, Kessler would be a step too high at the moment.
He aint getting much better though.

See how shell shocked Kessler is after Calzaghe (I believe he is lined up to fight soon) now might be the best time. Personally, I didn't like the way Kessler was speaking post Calzaghe, it was as if losing the 0 meant he had lost some of his desire.... he didn't seem to enthusiastic when asked if he will come back.
I thought Kessler sounded fine. He didn't take a beating, he was just very disenchanted and dissapointed to have lost his titles, his unbeaten record, and his chance to become the dominant force in the division.

I hope your right, as I am a fan. I know he didn't take a beaten - Calzaghe sort of fiddled is way past some rounds. Disenchanted is a good term to use when I thought he sounded like post fight.... just hope he is no longer like that.

Kessler unlike Reid will follow with trying to put Froch down. Reid had him off balance yet never tried to follow up.

Amazing how a slow flat footed head hunter like Froch Is being mentioned for a title. 6 years and only a British and Commonwealth to show for It.

Well, Khan's been a pro close to 4 years - and a younger pro (should adjust quicker) - he doesn't even have the British title yet.

2 years and 11 months Khan has been a pro and won the commonwealth and a WBO eliminator In much faster time that what Froch has done.

Khan could easily get that off Thaxton. I think he should do that, if the promoter's ties haven't been severed too much.

He's stepping up to world class faster than Froch even though both will have a loss once they do.

Froch wastes too much time, he could of got a title shot against a Beyer like fighter ages ago.

He aint stepped up yet... and there is no sign of it at the moment. Gomez isn't world class... who is to say the next fighter will be.

Don't count your chickens.

Froch would have been stepping into world class had Inkin showed - and a case could be made for Magee being fringe world class... certainly more world class than Limond.

Magee was overrated and got a gift draw against Oakey and ducked Brian Barbosa who Dodson beat.

Limond Is an underrated Gem with patience and a great tight guard.

Amir's at least not wasting time except for fighting Gomez.

So Scott Lawton a big step up from Limond then? Kristjansen a step up from Earl was it?

Gift draw vs Oakey.... crazy.... how about getting robbed against Tsypko for the EBU title - Tsypko would later on go and recieve an absolute sinful decision loss vs Lacy.

Oakey totally outworked Magee and landed as well.

Yes he got robbed In his EBU shot, doesn't make It right that he got a gift draw.

Yeah should won Vs Lacy but was lost the first fight but was lucy because of a clash of heads and Lacy easily winning before his shoulder went.

What are you on about... the fight went 2 rounds!!!!!

Again, I think if we polled the Magee vs Oakey fight - more people would think Magee won. It was close(ish) but Magee did the better work... None of the judges scored that fight for Oakey.

Magee was so negative and threw not enough single shots, how could anyone think he won?

Went 2 rounds but Lacy was pummeling him.

Plus you know what Calzaghe did to Lacy.

come on guys....
Froch faced a 3 choice opponent on a last minute call up... mentally he would have been so down for this fight..... boxing history has shown how many late subs have proved to be huge banana skins....

he got the job done.....

remember how average Joe looked in some of those routine WBO defences against kid fire/egyptian headbutter etc.. yet when he had a big fight and proper camp he looked great

I never said Tszypko was great - just said he is world class.... and Magee essentially beat him.

2 rounds.... well it didn't even go that... imagine if a similar scenerio happend with the Witter fight tonight. Of course you can make an assessment that early!. God, Hatton might have beaten Mayweather based on the first round.

Mickey Vann thought Magee beat Oakey, the other two thought it was a draw. So none of the three officially scored for uneffective aggression then - which is the way it should be.

Although Joe would often fight them with problems... like injuries and stuff. Besides he looked pretty electric smashing up McIntyre in 4 rounds.

Time and again you allow your irrational fanboy hatred of certain fighters to blind you to the facts.

Froch has moved at a steady pace, and is within spitting distance of a title shot. As others have said, Khan hasn't gone as far as Froch yet, despite having all the opportunities handed to him, and being hand-fed opponents.

He is by far the hardest puncher in the division, one of the most heavy handed fighters I've seen in quite some time, and if Calzaghe can hurt Kessler, Froch certainly will.

I'll put my neck on the line, and say that if they meet, I think Froch will probably stop Kessler late on.

I agree with James: I think Carl's completely under-rated. Besides the low left hand, his only major weakness is overconfidence. And that may be a temporary symptom caused by the standard of recent opposition; Calzaghe or Kessler would make him concentrate for example.

His power negates the lack of hand-speed. Calzaghe could fire lighter shots at Lacy because the reply was always predictable, not entirely slow. Marciano, Foreman, Eubank and many others were considered pretty slow in their prime. I think the type of boxers Calzaghe has fought have made speed look the be-all and end-all, because they couldn't manoeuvre around it.

Joe wouldn't dare shoe-shine Froch early on due to the risk of catching a right uppercut or straight in return. Hopkins was able to discourage flurries with a less threatening counter. Carl's body punching is coming on a treat too; he'll do well to keep the McCallum approach going.

Were it to ever happen I could end up looking very, very foolish, but I'm still happy to say I'd favour Froch over the rapidly ageing Calzaghe.

It's impossible to make a call like that if you only watched him last night. Those of us who've watched Carl over a sustained period were aware he was just going through the motions and barely moved out of first gear given the limited opposition.
He'd take care of Miranda, Green would be a 50/50 fight and while I'd favour Taylor to beat him on points, when is the last time Taylor absolutely destroyed anyone :o :o :o ?
My biggest concern over Froch is the way his career has stagnated - he's been a pro for five years and is now nearly 30, yet still hasn't challenged for a version of the world title - has wasted some of his prime years in my opinion.
