Nonsense nothing - Al Hamedi threw more shots, landed the better shots and won the fight - Go back and watch the fight without the blinkers on and you'll see for yourself.

Sorry pal, but he didn't win. There is one's head, and then there is the real world. I know with the Internet everyone has to have their own opinion, but that's straining things.

There is opinion based on fact

1) Al Hamidi threw the better shots
2) Al Hamdi threw the harder shots
3) Al Hamidi was buiser
4) Who do you think won the fight by the state of their face? Murray looked as if he was shoved into a bacon slicer head first.
5) Murray did nothing until round 5 and then was unneffective till round 7
6) The state of boxing today - the 22-0 prospect will never lose an 8 rounder to a 4-8-1 journeyman.

So there are the facts that are unarguable. Thats why for me Al Hamidi won the fight - or he did in the real world anyway!

Well you picked out one of my 5 points - the reason Murray looked the way he did was because Al Hamidi was hitting him hard and often and for me won the fight.

So tell me why Murray won in your opinion? What factors came down to him getting the descion apart from being the promoters blue eyed boy?

Murray pressed the fight, landed the harder shots. Yes, it was close but Al Hamidi was spoiling, holding, and generally fighting like a journeyman. Being elusive but not throwing much. Going into a shell after Murray did good work such as the few sickening body shots that landed and the right that almost dropped the late sub. Throwing enough to make things awkward, but certainly not enough quality/quantity to be ahead. Credit to Al Hamidi for earning his money. Thankfully a stale, probably dejected Murray got this out of the way.

It was a lesser performance by Murray - the last 5 months have been the low point of his career - and I really hope he is able to pick things up. This is the british Young Boxer of 2006 and it's tragic what's being allowed to happen.


Romanov's fight with Zoff has been brought up not far back in this thread. I think there's a better case that Zoff beat Romanov than Hamidi "beating" Murray.

Even with everything that has been going on the last week, Murray made hard work of Hamidi.

I've never been convinced about Murray, and you can check my posts from way back to confirm it.

He is festering away at the moment, and even if he does fight Fewkes and wins, he still is waiting on Thaxton.

The one who fought like a journeyman was Murray - sure he must have been disappointed about not getting his plum fight and having a lot of opponent changes but he performed poorly and did not win that fight - Al Hamidi on the other hand fought like a man being thrown a golden oppotunity - he threw more punches, he landed the better shots and the one who was doing all the holding was Murray - the bigger, stronger and slower man who could not contain the buzzsaw Syrian in front of him.

Being elusive but not throwing much.

Can someone get the punchstats for this fight - I'll bet anything that Al Hamidi threw and landed more shots than Murray.

one step at a time, and we'll see about that world beater comment. Israel Vazquez could look slow on his off nights - even lost fights he shouldn't have - and look what that well schooled pressure fighter achieved when he'd been written off at just about every step of his career.

1 thing that's being overlooked is that Hamidi may have touched down with the right hand in round 8. That would have made it even clearer to Murray, IF he did.

Murray is a decent fighter who I've seen on a couple of occasions. Unfortunately thought Henessey seem to be fornicating him up.
The most important thing for a young fighter is be fighting regularly, building confidence and progressing at a steady rate.
As has been said he should have been on the Thaxton bill, or at least been given a warm up before last night. There is absolutely no way a fit young fighter should have a five month lay off. Even if the opposition is crap, it stops him getting rusty and he might learn a thing or two in the process.

Fighting a guy like Al Hamidi at the last minute does him no good whatsoever. He's a decent fighter, who the likes of Simpson haven't looked good against, brought in with 24 hours notice and for no chance for Murray to get acquainted with his style. He was training for a different style with Fewkes.

It is like Calzaghe's first appearance on HBO. You would have struggled to see what all the fuss was about against Bika, because if the style match ups but looked fantastic against Lacy.

Murray is talented and can do alright, at least British or European, but he needs to handled better than he has been.

I think the whole Witter-Hatton feud has buried Murray a bit. I mean, if he had got Thaxton, there would be the Hatton-Thaxton comparisons and it may have been awkward for Hennessy to promote along those lines.

Now Witter is deposed and harder to sell than ever it's surely time to try something different.

Hennessy has 2 cards in the next 2 months and can easily get Murray going. Murray can pick up momentum, get his British title shot and put himself at the centre of loads of terrific, high motivation fights on the UK scene for the next year. I think Britain has enough talent to prepare Murray for higher levels and we'll see more of the Dean Hickman level quality performances.

As John keeps on saying, "My best performances come when my tools are nice and sharp" and his tools are sharp when he is busy. 1 fight this year is terrible and he admitted the inactivity put him "at a massive disadvantage" heading into Fewkes.

I know he's very determined to do well, especially after being slated for the last few days.

Murray won fair enough for me, but was unimpressive.

John needs exactly what he was originally booked in for....a tough championship fight against another rated boxer (Fewkes). Through no doing of his own Murray lost out on the Fewkes fight, ended up with a nightmare of spoiler and looked poor in getting the win.

I shouldn't judge Murray in these circumstances. Not so long ago he was looking great destroying Dean Hickman for the English title.

Murray needs championship fights now to bring out the best in him and thats clearly what Hennessy is trying to get him, but it just proved to be a nightmare on this occasion. There should be plenty more to come from Murray.

Matching him with Hamidi again teaches him - or anyone - nothing. Hamidi is a spoiler, Murray got "spoiled" a bit in the fight and needs the challenges. If fighters don't move forward they wither and after 1 fight in 5 months, no progress I simply cannot believe I am reading this.

Keep hearing these scorecards about Hamidi winning 4 or 5 rds is funny. Next we'll be reading that Witter was robbed vs Bradley.

How did Hamiedi spoil in the early rounds? He outboxed him, outmanouvered him and bashed him up. That wasnt spoiling, spoilings, backing up, running, covering up and throwing counter shots.

When he faces a 135lb version of Hamiedi, ie Khan for sake for sake of argument he gets Ko'd unless he improves. Anyway so what if he'd been out for 5months Hamiedi only got the call to fight at lunch time and is a natural featherweight.

I know your a fan of Murrays but he looks obviously limited, had poor defence, didnt know how to time and counter the speed, didnt know how to cut the ring off against a smaller man.

He needs to improve, sure he'll do better against a none mover though but his defense makes him a KO waiting to happen right now
