Jesus what a terrifying incident that must've been. Sounds very lucky he had his mate hanging onto him there.
But, from what I've read, it doesn't sound like he suffered any serious head injuries thankfully.

I reckon there's a chance we'll see Eammon back in the ring at some point. Obviously too early to tell, but it'd be great to see him come back from this.
Then let's see each of those thugs go three rounds with him - what a great sight that'd be!

Yes, these surgeons are anti-boxing anyway. They would say that.

Obviously I am no doctor, but I can't see a smashed up leg and punctured lung being the types of injuries that can end a career. Perhaps due to his age the chances are against him coming back - cause it will be a long road, but he's not a footballer who's career would be in ruins.

If doctors are confident he'll walk again (and I haven't heard anything to suggest their not) then I do think he can come back.

Footballers with smashed up legs (like Elliot and Boost) are capable of playing the sport, just not nowhere near the level of before. But a smashed up leg is far more important to a footballer than a boxer, if he will be able to run then I can see no medical reason why he can't return.

Prove them wrong Eamomn.

Willie Pep was told he would never walk again after breaking his back in a plane crash in 1947. He came back to have his legendary four-fight series with Sandy Saddler.

Bit of rubbish trivia here for you - An (i think) Canadian Cruiserweight called Craig Somethingski challenged Robert Daniels for his WBA Cruiserweight crown in the early 1990s and managed to take the talented Daniels the distance, despite being an amputee!!

Craig Bonaweski (or something similar) wore a prosthetic leg and proved that as long as you have two good hands and the heart the size of a lion, anything is possible.

He was a good fighter, too. I also seem to recall Donnie Poole, another Canadian, fighting on with a dodgy leg.

His name was Craig Bodzianowski.

The great lightweight of the 40s Beau Jack was never the same fighter after braeking his leg in a fight I seem to recall. It depends on where the break is and how it heals, plus how determined the fighter is to recover. One worrying thing for Magee is that he uses quite a bit of movement when he fight... that could well be affected by such a serious injury. A punchured lung could also result in a permanent weakening of the body to taking punches.

He's a 32-year-old light-welterweight who boxes and moves, he'll be 33 by the time he's ready to fight again. IMO he won't box at the level he can ever again. Very sad and I wish him well.

I think the worst injury is the knee be broken... the knee does so much work when your standing and moving around, if thats badly damaged then it'll affect movement, balance everything.
Judging by what I've read though Magee is lucky to be alive and lucky that he didn't get a beating around the head.
In a way it's better that he's older rather than a 23 year old just starting out, as I think it will help him deal with it better... the fact that he was talking about going into training and promoting is a good sign.
Having said that the full enormity of what has happened probably hasn't fully hit him yet......

There's a book out about him i think John Exshaw reviewed it in Boxing Monthly a while back. The attack on Magee was dispicable and the criminals should be caught and jailed, i have been away and only read about it in the Daily Sport and they are not usually 100% reliable but it seems that serious
