De La Hoya is a one-off, he flew to the top and was fighting the likes of Jeff Mayweather after a handful of fights. He also had Bob Arum in his corner, not Fwank.
Is Khan that bad?! He's a terrific fighter and is going to be going for a world title. He's beaten everyone easily, the only fighter that gave him trouble was Limond.
He has his flaws but he's still just a kid, he is getting better with every fight, and now he's dumped his trainer?
He was exceptional against St Clair, and now he's fighting Gomez?
I personally think Harrison deserved to be in his corner when the title shot came. You ask what Harrison has achieved? Well how is he to achieve anything - other than with Moore - if he's not given the opportunity to step up.
The timing is terrible, so something is obviously going on behind the scenes.
Oh Manfredy was a bit better than Earl.... would Earl have been competitive with Brown or Gatti - sorry no chance. Gatti was in the P4P bracket at that stage, on a big role having out boxed Patterson and out gutted Reulas. It was a big upset, but not a fluke.
If I remember rightly, BM said that if Hamed stepped up - Manfredy would have wiped the floor with him.
Khan's isn't that bad.... but for me that is the problem...... He's bloody brilliant... but he always was. Despite him not winning gold for me, he was the most sure fire success coming out the Amateurs since Oscar.... I was more impressed with Khan in the Olympics than Mayweather.
And for me, I don't see the improvement... the improvements I have seen have just come in his physical strength - and that is primarily an age thing. The holes in his defence that were evident vs Limond were there vs Kristjansen, the leaping in is still there.
I know he was in control of the fight - but he lost rounds against Kristjansen.... and in some ways Kristjansen performed better than Limond - cause aside from one punch and its recovery, Khan never lost a minute of the fight.
I just HOPE its purely a boxing decision.... that they see, whether correctly or not, that it is not working out as expected with Harrison and for them to win a world title - they need to get someone in.
Don't get me wrong, Harrison could be the best coach in the world - but I am trying to look at it from possibly an AMIR Khan pospective... offering maybe an alternative view than the - oh Harrison was right royally screwed.
I did think it was a bit bizarre, considering we as a forum can concentrate on the negative so much, that no-one made a thread about "is Harrison the right man for the job" after the Limond fight.
People questionned the creditials of Suarez, Steward, Graham, Calzaghe, Ingle, Adam Booth, Don Turner (for Duddy), Bryan Hughes, Audley's yankie trainer,.... after their main fighter/s lost or struggled... Not Harrison.
