Next challenger already lined up for David Barnes

David Barnes defends his British welterweight title against Lurgan's Glenn McClarnon on the Hatton-Pinto bill in Manchester on April 3 - but is already lining up a following defence in order to secure himself a Lonsdale Belt for keeps.
West Bromwich's Marcus Portman is said to be in the frame, if Portman gets past fellow southpaw Chris Saunders in a forthcoming fight.
Barnes, if he beats McClarnon and Portman, will presumably then vacate the British title to concentrate on Eamonn Magee's WBU title, which the Belfast man will shortly relinquish due to severe leg injuries.
Still no mention of Jimmy Vincent for Barnes. Probably never will be.

A shame. I don't think i've ever seen a fighter more deserving of a rematch than Vincent. I had him just edging the fight with Barnes.
Interesting to see if Barnes can improve beyond his current level. If he doesn't it's going to take some clever match-making to get him a version of the world title.

i'm suprised james hare doesnt have something to say about that, after beating john humphrys for a final eliminator a couple of years ago. would be an easy fight back for james imo.

Good fight for Hare - If Barnes gets to keep the title based on these three defences then he's made a mockery of the belt. He should really reliquish the belt if he's not ready to step up.

Where is the BBBoC ordering Vincent vs Barnes II - they should threaten Barnes with losing his belt.

I don't like Barnes anyway. Good fighter, don't really like his personality though.

Barnes has always come across okay for me he seems genuine enough, his win over Kevin McIntyre was a good win after the Vincent fiasco, Vincent clearly won that fight IMO but then again the allegedly prospect always gets priority i mean come on whether we like it or not allegedly runs British Boxing...what he says goes. The BBBC know this but without him perhaps they know things would not function as smoothly as they do now.

i know what you mean. Saw an interview with him after the Vincent fight, and he didn't give Jimmy any credit at all. He was acting like he'd won the fight clearly, saying he was "the best welterweight in the country". He's starting to believe his own hype. He looked very good at first, but his last few fights, I havn't been overly impressed.

he was rushed to quickly, and i think the standard of opponents he is in with now, maybe aren't right to be fighting for the title he holds, but are correct for his progression. But Vincent certainly deserves a second chance and i think he will get that, but in the mean time Barnes is looking to improve against opponents that aren't pushovers, but at the same time aren't serious threats. He's till a prospect in many respects.

I think in a Vincent rematch, Barnes will be more experienced and better all round. Also he would of seen how Magee was able to beat Vincent pretty comfortably and will be trying to follow that example.
