ali over rated

Your kidding right? everyone knows that Willams had no liver, was missing his entire leg, the bullet was lodged in his brain AND he had a cold when they fought. Furthermore Williams was never truly knocked down, the canvas simply gave way under the weight of his prosthesis which was made of lead....which of course weakened Willams further via the lead poisoning.
At least get your details right granberry.
I was going to ignore you - and have been doing so successfully - but since you chose to drag my name into this thread.granberry wrote:Sounds like the above post STRUCK HOME with poor raylawc--an obvious member of the above mentioned group.granberry wrote:buzz and collins have a deep hatred for anyone who does not grovel for their mediocre Ali.

It's tough to be an Ali worshipper.
Some people see the ridiculousness of their 'religion.'
Actually, the only time I ever wanted Ali to win was in his fight with Ron Lyle, because I knew Lyle and happened to like him less than Ali (well, actually, it was more Bobby Lewis than Lyle himself - guilt by association, I guess).
In the approximately 40 Ali fights I saw, I was for his opponent in 38 of those. (I was pretty ambivalent about who won the Holmes fight.)
I just wish we could talk about boxing without all the insults.

I agree or at least a bit of a sense of humor about the subject. It's ok to campaign for your opinion...sometimes colorfully.....but the venom is dissapointing at times.raylawpc wrote:I was going to ignore you - and have been doing so successfully - but since you chose to drag my name into this thread.granberry wrote:Sounds like the above post STRUCK HOME with poor raylawc--an obvious member of the above mentioned group.granberry wrote:buzz and collins have a deep hatred for anyone who does not grovel for their mediocre Ali.

Henry Cooper recalls knocking down the then Cassius Clay at Wembley Stadium in June 1963

'I caught Ali with a clean left hook in the fourth round, one of the best I'd ever thrown.
"As the punch connected, I could see that he was gone. In boxing, the eyes tell you everything and I could see the whites of his. It was a shame that he wasn't in the centre of the ring because as he went down the ropes broke his fall. Then, of course, the bell came to his rescue. It was the first time that anyone had knocked Ali down and I remember thinking how lucky the bell was for him, because when I had people in trouble in those days I always finished them off.
"But I didn't have chance because his trainer, Angelo Dundee, was a shrewd man and stuck his nails into Ali's glove to rip it and cause a delay."

Hi Buzz: There was a slight delay, but the notion of a lengthy delay is a boxing "urban legend." None of the contemporary accounts report a delay; nor does BI. I've personally pulled the AP and UPI wire service reports and they don't report a delay. I'm told by our Brit friends that the London papers did not report a delay.BoxBuzz wrote:Anyone want to recount the facts regarding that "delay"? I heard granberry told someone here that they called the fight on account of darkness.....and they got an early start the next morning.
Steve Lott has analysed the original video tapes and determined there was maybe a delay of about 8 seconds. Here's what Steve wrote:
"I have just screened the video of the original BBC telecast of the Clay - Cooper 1st fight.
This master is un-edited and uncut in any way. According to the live British commentator, “Copper hit Clay about 2 seconds before the bell ending round 4.â€
