Re: Worst Ever World Champion?
I'm not sure many will agree but Buster Douglas came to my mind. Doing what he did against Mike tyson and lying down against Holyfield. I think he preformed a miracle knocking out Tyson but not putting up much resistance against Holyfield has got to be shameful.
Re: Worst Ever World Champion?
Henry Akinwande.
Did you know what Audrey Harrison once held the WBF heavyweight strap, so technically was world champion. How good would it be to see the "A-Farce" in the ring with a Liston or a Foreman.

Firat Aslan
Mange Havanaa
Mikael Kessler - I wish - I just wish Marvin Hagler would make a comeback at the age of 57 to knock the most overrated fighter in the history of European boxing head right into next week - By the way Calazghe goes on about him - you think he'd beaten the second coming of Carlos Monzon.
That boring Ukrainian twat who beat Gavin Rees - so boring he could send a glass eye to sleep!
Oh and I forgot
SVEN OTTKE!
'Ze Sven is ver wunderbar fighter like Rocky von Marciano you Engelander dumkopf! Der Ottke and referee vos unbeaten in Deuschtland ja!'

I have to say Ottke, I just hate him.
I know he beat a few names but come on, what a shithouse.
Bruce Seldon is a good shout. What a coward. He went down like a cheap hooker v Tyson and then gave him love and hugs afterwards.
He was a disgrace.

Re: Worst Ever World Champion?
Also: Aquiles Guzman. Won a fly alphabet title in 1992 with a record of 6-5-2, lost it less than three months later and finished his career with a record of 13-14-3.
And Bert Schenk, a German with a padded record (okay, that's redundant) who briefly held the WBO middleweight championship. Fought three legitimate fights his whole career and got knocked out in two of them. Was so bad he actually got knocked out in the second round by Felix "Mega-fists" Sturm

Great shout. God I remember Bert! What a bum he was...
Re: Worst Ever World Champion?
I think the worst have already been said: Santana, Bentt, Seldon (and probably in that order).
Lou DelValle was a pretty weak one too IMO.
And while he may not be one of THE absolute worst ever, I'd rate Jeff Harding as one of the weakest champs to ever gain some degree of notoriety.
Has anyone mentioned Julio Cesar Green? He controversially edged Joppy for the middleweight title and then got his arse beat in the rematch. I can't remember him doing shyte after that. Last time I saw him fight, he took a blatant dive against Mikkel Kessler. Even Kessler had a look on his face like, "Oh, come on!"
Going back in time, Babe Risko (middleweight champion) and Freddie Cochrane (welterweight) had the reputation of being among the worst champs ever, though Risko's reputation may have been a bit unjust.

Re: Worst Ever World Champion?
Whoa mate. Not saying Jeff Harding was the greatest or anything but no way in hell does his name even belong on this thread. A good honest fighter. If you watch his first fight with Andries and tell me he belongs anywhere near some of the names mentioned here i think you are being somewhat harsh. Each to their own though.I just think a guy who could punch, had a great chin and lots of heart as well as always coming to fight should not be mentioned here.
Re: Worst Ever World Champion?
Billy Backus springs to mind.
Any number of WBO champions but Eamon Loughran was a peach.

Re: Worst Ever World Champion?
there's alot of boxers that have their one day in the sun, and win a world championship, then never do much after that.
I wouldn't put Jeff Harding in any list as worst ever world champion,

Re: Worst Ever World Champion?
Maussa is definitely up there. Never thought much of Eric Lucas and Vincenzo Nardiello either but I bet there is much worse somewhere in History.

Dennis Andries
Now, I loved watching him, but before he went to The Kronk he had little or no skill at all and the championship win (JB Willams? In a big top tent? - or am imagining that?) was dreadful
The DA who came back from the Kronk was a different matter all together but I still cringe if I see any clips of the DA vs Hearns fight
A lot of heart, but just plain embarrassing

Dennis Andries??? no way the worst world champion, winning titles in the backyards of the champions twice against Willis and Harding.
He also beat Bobby Czyz, Tony Sibson, Crawford Ashley

You didn't read my post
I was comparing the pre and post kronk DA
The original version was a shambles
The latter version would never be considered the worst
