Re: micky steeds
Tough one that, Mickey hasn't impressed that much since going down to cruiser, Norton is a good boxer, but coming off a loss in his last one.
So neither boxer has great form coming in, and neither has been that active.
Think i might side with Nortons better boxing to take the win on points

Re: micky steeds
Norton may rarely set the pulse racing but he is huge for the weight (a big frame) and can counter punch really well. Even though Steeds is coming down from heavy Norton will be the bigger man on the night IMO.
If Norton is still motivated (and he should be for the elusive British crown) then he should be too cute and well schooled for Steeds.
Norton on points for me.

And he's a southpaw, of course, Dan.TerribleTerry wrote:Norton may rarely set the pulse racing but he is huge for the weight (a big frame) and can counter punch really well. Even though Steeds is coming down from heavy Norton will be the bigger man on the night IMO.

First thing Rob asked me about Steeds was: “has he been stopped before?” He loves fighting men who have never been taken out quickly, gives him more motivation. After all, he is the only man to have legitimately stopped Paul Bonson (the other two stoppages were on cuts) and likewise with the Surrey traveller, Epsom’s Tommy Eastwood, for the English title last year.
Norton, never the biggest ticket-seller in the world, has provisionally got rid of about 150 for the British title fight at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, which isn’t bad for him. I'm sure more, he's from nearby Stourbridge, will turn up on the night.
I reckon Steeds can last out, although I’m positive Norton hits harder than the likes of Scott Gammer – mainly because he swings his power shots from the waist – and will be more than competitive.

No. I, along with Matt Bozeat, had Rob losing only one round (the first) at the time of the stoppage. He also went into the fight with the use of only one arm, so to stop a big and powerful man like Eastwood, never been stopped before in a career that saw him fight at heavyweight, whilst only one-armed is an achievement.1southpaw wrote:wasn't norton getting beat by eastwood untill he ran out of gas??? i have not seen the fight but was told that he was

I’m sure Mickey will give Norton an excellent fight – certainly a chance he could beat him – but is he as good as tricky southpaw Lee Swaby, who wanted to win in those days, was? He pushed Mark Hobson to a controversial decision a fight or two later. Rob, however, battered him.
With all due respect, Darron Griffiths and Jacob Mofokeng were probably better than Steeds.

as said earlier norton is a big man for the weight
but darren griffiths at his best was a middle/super middle and norton couldn't stop him and steeds is comming down from fighting the big men and has never been stopped
so i cant see norton stopping steeds also i think it will be hard for norton to get up for this fight after all he's been a pro for 15 years now and comming to the end at 36 i think he will have to win inside 4 rounds otherwise i can see steeds boxing his way to a points win and at 24 has it all infront of him???
this fight for the british title is the best out there at the min i can see the winner (steeds

Re: micky steeds
I was distinctly unimpressed by Steeds last time out at York Hall.
If Rob is up for this I think he will win comfortably.

Re: micky steeds
Micky trains and helps out at my gym and lately he is improving a lot he is faster stronger and fitter maybe taking other boxers on the pad work has sharpened him up . The cruiserweight division suits him perfectly and no doubt he will earn a title shot . He has time on his side as he is still young and having no amatuer background is learning with every fight even though he seems so experienced in the ring .I see Micky on a regular basis and he is such a nice guy everyone likes him at our gym
.he has such a great personaility and is never in a bad mood .The only thing i would like to see Micky have is a bit more aggresion
and get nasty looking to destroy his opponent and going in for the kill when the other guy is hurt .other than that he has the tools for the job

Re: micky steeds
Has Mickey still got a lot of distractions/people hanging onto him? I remember reading an interview with his trainer saying they'll have to go abroad prior to the 2nd Gammer fight as his training is always disrupted with people coming to see him, people hanging around etc.

I understand Jamie Moore fights for the European title on September 26.
Re: micky steeds
September is looking jammed:
Calzaghe
Moore
Haye
Arthur
Watched Steeds for the first time at Cruiser against Green and was fairly impressed. Although Green wasn't that game and had shoulder issues Michael can do well in the division.
Tom, did you catch it? What did you think?

Re: micky steeds
I couldn’t make it, which I was really disappointed about. I read your report, however, and Steeds seemed to do a decent job on an opponent who is a fairly dangerous banger. That said, he doesn't appear to whack too hard despite the weight coming off. He seems to be a decent boxer, mind.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Watched Steeds for the first time at Cruiser against Green and was fairly impressed. Still, Steeds hasn’t made cruiserweight yet and hasn’t fought anyone like Norton, a southpaw counterpuncher with a dig in either hand. It promises to be a decent fight but I can only see one winner.

Re: micky steeds
The times I've seen Steeds fight, he always reminded me of the time Homer Simpson played a boxer, you can just hit him and hit him and he'll keep coming at you. The only thing that he lacks is the instinct to rack up points and get stuck in, he fights (in the fights I've seen him) in a style to let his oppenent chase him and then rack up the points in counters, he should be more aggressive and go for it.
Should be an interesting fight.

Re: micky steeds
Dirk kelly yeah you are right he does let them chase him but when ive seen boxers chase micky they always end up on one of his short uppercuts as simpkin found out a few times.People keep saying on here micky is not a puncher and only wins on points but knockouts and i mean a knockout where the opponent is been put to sleep before he hits the floor are like gold dust today .And remember he has only had 13 fights stopped 3 thats not bad dont forget one of those was paul bonson who has a chin like fornicating stone and he has fought gammer twice who has a good chin .

Re: micky steeds
Totally agree, he fought a very tactically good fight against Kenna (aside from the fouling!), Colin chased and chased him round the ring and every time Colin would land one, Mickey would get 3 or 4 counters in. He and Kenna blasted each other with some good shots that night, his chin was solid, I think Colin hit him with everything he had.giant killer grant wrote:Dirk kelly yeah you are right he does let them chase him but when ive seen boxers chase micky they always end up on one of his short uppercuts as simpkin found out a few times.People keep saying on here micky is not a puncher and only wins on points but knockouts and i mean a knockout where the opponent is been put to sleep before he hits the floor are like gold dust today .And remember he has only had 13 fights stopped 3 thats not bad dont forget one of those was paul bonson who has a chin like effing stone and he has fought gammer twice who has a good chin .

Re: micky steeds
Steeds boxing aggressively would play right into counter-punching Norton’s hands. Tommy Eastwood, an iron-chinned traveller from Surrey, tried that and ended up getting a one-sided beating for eight rounds.Dirk Kelly wrote:The times I've seen Steeds fight, he always reminded me of the time Homer Simpson played a boxer, you can just hit him and hit him and he'll keep coming at you. Against other men, however, that tactic would be more beneficial.
Re: micky steeds
Ive seen micky in action and think he'd be a match for anyone in cruiserweight, Norton certainly has a tricky one this time!
