Darlington riot- just got back!!!!
Just got back from a crazy night.Great venue very well run loads of security just the wrong clash of suporters i think. It was going to go off in my opinion as middle of the 2nd contest in the bar hall which was quite a big space two guys actually stripped off NAKED i mean eveything and ran around like fcukin idiots in front of women and some children,i watched this and could not belive that grown men can do such an idiotic thing. The securtiy then ran in after ten mins of the guys STILL prancing around naked 4 bouncers grabbed the guy who was trying to give them the slip as he thought it was funny still when they caught him his mates all ran at the bouncers, man i tell you it was scary the bouncers were doing there job properly as far as i was concernd i think Ian will agree with me and they still was over crowded by these thugs. It seem to calm down then i went in the main hall and got a seat for the main event right at the back with Errol Johnson (my trainer) of the sloped seats.I was about 15 foot in the air great view then just b4 they annonced the main event another idiot ran into the ring and started shadow boxing again the security got him out as quick as they could Garside(promoter) then got hold of him also as you could understand his anger at this thug grabbed this idiot hard and i mean hard and i dont blame the guy.
The main event was a great fight close fight also till the interuption,Francis and Danny Mior were very profesional and stayed focused touched gloves as they got in and also b4 the first bell,it was a great atmosphere no indication of what was to come,Both sets of fans were well apart as they signs told them to be,as far as i was concerned a small minority of Francis's fans were singing toward Danny's and they sang back then a small scruffle started and LOADS of Franny's ran toward it,it was absolutly crazy in every sense of the word, what happend after was like a war zone i never witnessed it b4 and NEVER want to again.Chairs were heavy and steel and still they were being thrown at speed at leat 15' in the air toward Moirs fans, the gap between these fans was only 10-15 foot and i am serious. How no one was not seriously injured or killed i will never know.Garside was furious as was his co promoting wife who was in tears, same as women all over the arena.
I wouild like to point out that Tommy Gilmour and BOTH boxers were brilliant about what happend and were terribly ashamed of there so called fans.Danny was a very nice guy ans is Franny i felt gutted for the lads

I was at the Tony Oakey show last year when it all kicked off, it aint funny, they nearly linched Barney and his old man ( he is bad but no nead to kill him), they all ran at the barriers like nutters, christ knows what would have happened if Barney had brought any fans with him.hitman_hatton1 wrote:its so hard to stop as well when sh*tloads of people r all starting theres only so much security can do.
lets hope this sort of thing doesn't keep happening at the small hall shows its hard enuff for the smaller promoters in this country as it is without these thugs making it worse for em.
We were in Glasgow for the Harrison fight in November and they were all fighting each other, nowone took any notice they all just carried on watching the boxing.

okey is pretty well known for having a largew portsmouth football fan following, I think that mentailty as much to do with it as how much you drink. having said that this isnt the first time is it, Errol Christie mark Kaylor anyone...
Its a sad enditement on society that you cant go watch some sport without a free for all but hey I was brought up on rugby so Ive never understood the football mentality of them and us.

No, you're right - seemed to be the case with Oakey-Barney and it also seemed to be the case with Benn-Gimenez too. I just know it wasn't the case in Darlington. For a little town (well, 100,000ish) Darlington has a bad history of football hooliganism, so it wouldn't surprise me if people jumped to that conclusion anyway.
I just happen to know that it wasn't the case in this particular instance!

Yeah, I remember that. Two hilariously irresponsible comments were made in ringside interviews that night. Some arsehole Tory minister (Jeremy Hanley) called it something like 'youthful exuberance', trying to excuse the thugs, even though it was obviously a lot more vicious than that.
Nigel Benn was rather annoyed afterwards and said "If you want a fight, go down the boozer." I'm sure all publicans thanked him for that!
