Casamayor couldn't fight any better; Corrales could

Casamayor couldn't fight any better than he did in the first fight with Corrales. Diego could. And did.
I enjoyed the fight. The judges got it spot on in my opinion.

Have not watched it yet but i have the tape in front of me now to view later on, i hear contrasting views on the outcome. Some say Corrales tight and some wide while others say Casamayor on a close one...so it's hard to form an opinion before i see it. I think Corrales should stop killing himself and move up to Lightweight to fight Freitas unless of course he fights a third match with Casamayor which is possible.

i disagree.

Casamyor fought well last time, but made mistakes himself. When ever he hurt Corrales he went for the KO and got caught himself a couple of times.

I agree Corrales had alot of improving to do, and he did that. His defence was alot better, and he was using the jab well for once, and that meant that he found it easier to cut the ring down, and not allow Casamayor to get into a rhthym.

Casamayor dissapointed me alot. In the first fight he was over confident at times, getting caught needlessly, but this time he was too cautious. He threw away the fight in the first half, when i only gave him 1 round, the first. From there on, it was an uphill struggle, he almost clawed it back, but i gave Corrales the fight by 1 point in the end.

I am glad Corrales won, he is a far nicer guy, and more exciting to watch.

yeah. Casamayor is like that, not very consistent. I'd pick him in a 3rd fight.

Just coming into round 3 and i got it 19-19.....don't know what fight McCrory and Smith are watching but good job they don't commentate for radio, Corrales is "superior" and "controlling the fight" apparently but not from what i can see. Casamayor is committing the USA ring crime of Boxing and moving! Corrales is stalking but not landing any telling shots, 10-10.....still can't see the ring dominance the commentators are talking about but Casamayor ran way too much in the fourth and Corrales kept him off balance with a steady jab, Casamayor's ineffectiveness costs him the round so Corrales 10-9 and overrall 39-38 Corrales.....becoming increasingly infuriated with the commentators, Adam Smith proclaims "It's a quite fabulous display from Corrales" WHAT IS HE WATCHING!! Corrales stalks a lot but lands nothing big, Casamayor lands some sneaky bodyshots but mostly runs but for everything Corrales lands Casamayor lands back, tempted by a 10-10 but 10-9 Corrales for his jab work so 49-47.....Casamayor is still being berated for Boxing and moving but he lands straight lefts to head and body and Corrales generally misses most of his shots, Corrales has a decent flurry at the end but not all land clean but still that 10 second burst gets the round on Glenn McCrory's card?!

close one could have gone to Joel but not entirely forceful so give Corrales the benefit and 10-10/59-57.....

Sorry about the running commentary but i am watching it while typing and thus enjoying myself

Hence.....

Round 7 and lost all confidence in McCrory who is starting to annoy me i don't think Corrales is well on top as he claims, the fight has hit a lull and Corrales stalks while Casamayor runs neither do a great deal, however Casamayor lands some good shots at the end but Corrales's output was probably slightly more so Corrales 10-9 and 69-66 but debatable, three points ahead now.....Casamayor holding his hands too low in round 8 but shows more authority and backs up Corrales with accurate shots and wins the round 10-9....Casamayor shows good defence blocking jabs and weaving away from shots while landing plenty of his own shots in return, another round for him as Corrales goes quiet 10-9 but still 87-86 overrall to Corrales but the gap is narrowing.....big round for Casamayor with a knockdown and plenty more straight lefts and even sporadic jabs landing to make it a 10-8, Casamayor sneaks ahead for me 96-95 it's all in the balance!!.....Corrales round 10-9 as he lands better shots and more solid punches while Casamayor goes quiet and back on his bike, so 105-105 all equal into the last round!!....both men seem wary of there power and elect to consolidate i go 10-10 with nothing of note from either man.

I got it a draw then 115-115, wouldn't mind a third fight though

Well done CHICO. Hope he can capitolise on his latest belt and make a stand in the devision. he has got a bit of tommy hearns in him, he can bang and his chin isnt the best about!

I had the same score as Mcrory

but got there by a different route, Corrales by a single point. I was glad he got it though, he is slowly endearing himself to me after going on my disliked list after the wife-beating thing.

Although I had only a point in it I preferred Corrales work to Casamayor, probably more asthetically pleasing to me or something but I was glad the gave him the nod.

I thought Casamayor could have fought better than he did in the first fight, he was handing Corrales his arse on a plate before getting carried away going for the stoppage and being caught himself, which was the leveller. I figured the Cuban to implement similar tactics this time but be more disciplined and not go for Diego until he was out on his feet.

I didn't figure for Corrales taking a more assertive stance this time out and controlling the centre of the ring (for the majority of the fight) and making Casamayor very hesitant about coming in. Well done Diego!

Still think my man Morales can beat him though...

I personally didnt agree with the decision, the way glenn was going on, you would think that Corrales was dominating the fight with the jab like Larry Holmes used to do back in the day.

I dont think Corrales won any round particlary clearly, and i think that the early rounds werent all Diego.

I personally think Casamayor deserved at least a draw, or a close win. (like the first scorecard)

But i am truly pissed at Casamayor, like his fight wiht Acelino, he threw it away, it was there to win, and they didnt do it.

Casamayor did nothing of note though. Corrales was the aggressor, and that is one of the scoring criterion. All Joel did was run, and occasionally catch Corrales with that left hand.

What the hell does the knockdown count for exactly, apart from an extra point? It was in round 10, so there were 9 rounds before that, and the judges didn't know Casamayor was gonna get a knockdown. So they were not gonna give him extra points in advance were they. It counts for nothing but one point.

Corrales boxed really well behind his jab, and the two judges who had it in his favour scored the fight just about right.

I thought the fight was pretty dull, a lot of missing in there. I'm glad Corrales won though, a fight between him and Morales is a superb match up for later this year.

Casamayor is looking worse with every fight IMO. He might not be ready to hang them up just yet but it's on the horizon.

Too sharp looked back to his very best, I went for his opponent because I really thought it was Montiel that lost their fight I wasn't that impressed with Johnson that time (given the fact the Montiel's opponent before Johnson died of injuries - it was understandable why he was subdued). He looked as sharp as ever, and should reign at this weight for some time.

Can he step it up? Somehow I just think Marquez has got his number, he is another exceptional fighter and apparently their rematch was a dominant victory.

I'm surprised Casamayor took a rematch he could easily have avoided, because he clearly didn't fancy getting hit by Corrales again - and who can blame him?

Corrales is a monster: those punches he was throwing early on looked to have TNT on everyone of them and could well have flattened the Cuban had they landed.
He must be an absolute nightmare to fight ( unless you're Floyd Jr ) the pressure of keeping out of the way of his bombs must really take it's toll.
Really is a mini Tommy Hearns.

Defintely thought he deserved to win - and yes a fight between him and Morales would be a real classic. He'd have a great chance at winning that as well.

And Marc Johnson looked just brilliant

I wonder if Corrales will consider trying to get a rematch with Mayweather.

In his brief interview with Adam Smith he suggested that everything had gone wrong for him before that fight (problems with the weight etc).
With everything seemingly going right for him at the moment, and in his own opinion he can fight alot better than he showed against Mayweather. Could he conceivable move up and fight Floyd again?
