I watched "Ali" the other night on tv, it was weird cause it was on Much More Music here in Canada, but the film has nothing to do with Music, I guess it's because Will Smith is/was a musician.

How about James Toney as Joe Fraizer, he must of been only around 205-210lbs playing the part, He Looked good, it'd be nice to see him in that kind of Conditioning once again.

Dempsey on PBS

Post by Boxer561 »

Some time supposedly in June (I haven't been informed of the exact date yet), PBS's History Detectives show will be airing an episode on Jack Dempsey. It will cover his championship fight with Willard and other parts of his career. Jack Kearns, Jr. (Doc's son) and Bert Sugar Randolph were interviewed for the show. Some of the photos used for the episode are from my personal collection. I will repost when I'm informed of the date or you can check on it at PBS.org - under the History Detectives. As of 3/30, they haven't posted the episodes for the upcoming season yet which starts in June.

TCM is currently playing "Somebody up there likes me." This is worth watching if only to see Tony Zale playing himself in the second Zale /Graziano fight.

Last night must have been Rocky Marciano day or something, because on the Documentary channel they had 'Rocky Marciano: A Life Story' and on ESPN Classic they not only had the Rocky Marciano movie, they had the top ten Heavyweights on RINGSIDE and the second part to the RINGSIDE series on Marciano.

Is that the same Rocky Marciano film with Duane Davis as Joe Louis & Penelope Anne-Miller & Judd Hirsch?

That was a pretty impressive film IMO. The fight scenes were done better than some bigger budget boxing movies.

..."the milky way".. a harold llyod flick was remade as 'the kid from brooklyn" starring danny kaye.

i think "body and soul" is not just the all-time greatest boxing movie, but one of the all-time greatest movies, period.

if "city for conquest" ever pops up see it...a boxing them with jimmy cagney. i think the title is one of the most evocative ones ever.
