I don't think this is good news - hardly like Haye fights were not going to be televised. I would have liked to have seen Haye on ITV/BBC.

terrestrial TV can't afford to make the big fights, while cable have more money to throw around. Haye is in the right place.

I welcome the fact that we have 3 networks with money behind them trying to show top quality boxing, it is clear that Setanta have found with the big fights (such as the Calzaghe and Haye one) there is a clear market out there for them in terms of subsciption... Having said that I would love to not have to go to my mate James's house and explaing boxing to him everytime Haye fights.

Setanta should provide him with with the finances to attract the BIG named opponents leaving him free to continue progressing his career at Haye-speed.

The SN-Setanta exclusive contract must mean that SN fights can only be shown on Setanta rather than Setanta can only show SN fights (from the UK), unless Haye's joining Fwanky

Don't know but it rather depressingly means that a Haye Williams fight is more likely doesn't it!

Not if Haye has anything to do with it, he wants Klitschko, King-Kong and Godzilla in his next 3 fights

I wouldn't mind Haye vs Williams for the Heavyweight title.... even though Williams isn't deserving - nice to see the top prize in sport being contested by two britains again.

Don't think it will be Bruno Lewis again, I could see that being a "warm up fight" I have nothing against warm up fights but the domestic merry go round bollox is a bit much.

No, it was not obvious.

ITV had an exclusive contract with SN and what did that mean? ONLY SN FIGHTS WERE SHOWN.

I think?

:TU:
Yes it was, (although Hennessy did a brief show before it went exclusive I believe?).

But that was announced as being exclusive that way round.

However, when the fanfare about Warren's deal with Setanta came along, it was just Warren who bleated on about it being 'exclusive'. Which technically it is, but it was never explicity stated which way round - and that tells you all need to know.

It is one of the oldest tricks in the books!!

I'm guessing that it's going to be that he will become a stand alone promoter?

Anybody know if he has applied for a promoters licence?

Or somehow have more control over his shows...

That would explain how he has been 'working on it' over a couple of years....

Haye should fight someone like McBride to start off with, then see how it goes from there. I believe he has all the potential in the world to make Heavyweight champion, but there are some intriguing steps he could/should make before climbing in with a top ten heavyweight: how about fights with other cruiser turn heavies in James Toney, Vasiliy Jirov, Juan Carlos Gomez or the big one in Evander Holyfield?

The great thing is, Haye doesn't have to fight an A class fighter for it to be an event. Given that he has the pedigree in the amateurs and the pro cruisers. His whole contendership will be an event so he can go for guys like McBride, because each fight is a step toward something big.

Anyone think Haye is going to help sell a lot of Setanta sunscriptions?

Warren is "very upset" that Setanta have signed Haye, LOL

What with Haye getting into promoting, Warren surely doesn't want to see a rival doing well. Also that makes it harder to promote Maccarinelli's image as well.

It's up to the TV companies to provide for the fans & not get bogged down offering limited service by only one promoter. Setanta have the right outlook - the "exclusive" contract was that Warren's fighters could only fight on Setanta (don't know how Khan fits in), not that Setanta could only feature Warren's fighters.

yeah, I'm just saying what I read about Warren not being happy about it-- and why should he be upset given that we've established which way round the exclusivity thing goes?
