Paul Malignaggi Update!
IBF junior welterweight champion Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi (25-1, 5 KOs) was examined today by his hand specialist, Dr. Steven Margles, at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington, Massachusetts. Dr. Margles confirmed that Malignaggi fractured his right hand during his win by 12-round decision against Lovemore N’dou last Saturday in Manchester, England. Malignaggi will stay in the Boston area with Dr. Margles to pursue appropriate treatment. “I spoke with Dr. Margles after he examined Paulie and the prognosis is good,” Malignaggi’s promoter Lou DiBella said. “This should not affect Paulie’s big fight this fall against Ricky Hatton in any way.”

If Malignaggi came through N'dou clearly and without injury like their first fight then I would've give him a chance to outbox Hatton and make Hatton miss a lot and counter him to death. However, it would seem that the Ngoudjo "win" wasn't just a one-off because some people feel he lost the N'Dou fight as well. I think we have to face facts that Paulie is horrendously overrated - he got beat off a dead-at-the-weight Cotto (people look too far into that performance) and now has brittle hands that seem to break when he throws a right. And against Hatton he's going to need his right hand because his power is a little underrated because when he's fully fit and his right hand is sound then he does show glimpses of power (N'Dou and Cotto), plus Hatton's going to walk onto a lot of punches with his style. Now, I'm fairly certain that Paulie won't fight with his right hand too much (and if he does he will probably break it), like against Ngoudjo, Cherry and Yelton. He therefore has no chance I think - Hatton will win a 117-111 decision I reckon.
