George Groves is turning professional!!
According to the David Haye/Setanta press conference double ABA champion George Groves is turning professional. Unfortunately Dale Youth team-mate James Degale prevented him going to the Beijing Olympics so the logical step does seem to be the paid ranks now. I think this a massive boost for British boxing. Groves is very powerful (I think six of his last eight wins have been inside the distance), physically strong, brave (he won a fight against a Pole with a broken jaw), seems to have a good chin and he is only twenty years of age. The only question is will he only be appearing on David Haye undercards if he has signed with Hayemaker promotions? Haye may only fight two or three times a year, what about other shows?

Read the report over at BBN, Scrap.
They said they had a four-fight deal with Haye...but also a six-card deal with Hayemaker boxing.
I wasn't quite sure if the four Haye fights were part of the six-card package or there would be ten cards in total, if you get my drift.

Seems to have a good chin? I can't remember when a good puncher caught him on it.
He did get knocked out in the first round against Travis Dickinson a couple of years ago though.

I didn't think this (either the Groves deal or the Setanta deal) was what Haye was discussing when he mentioned on the Beeb to look out for his massive announcement.
I thought it sounded a little non-boxing related, cause he said he'd been working on it for a few years.

I think that was Hayemaker promotions Stu. He has been working on going it solo for a while - probably since before he turned over...stujones wrote:I didn't think this (either the Groves deal or the Setanta deal) was what Haye was discussing when he mentioned on the Beeb to look out for his massive announcement.

Crikey, if true, thats what you call confidence in your ability.Maelstrom wrote:I think that was Hayemaker promotions Stu. He's enamoured with Roy Jones, so it's not that hard to believe.
