Report from Haye's press conference
Re: Report from Haye's press conference
I'm talking about the Yankee Poos here mate. I reckon we remember him for the good stuff like Mormeck, Fragomeni and Maccarinelli but the Americans won't - that's what I mean about you can't win with some folk because when a Brit is successful they go looking into the past for faults and people who have "stunned" them like Lolenga and Mormeck but when someone's 45-0 like Calzaghe they accuse him of beating up old men and bums. I freaking hate them for their stupidness, naiveness and you simply can't win with them.
Re: Report from Haye's press conference
I'm not so sure about this Dioufy. Do the American's really care that he lost to Carl Thompson in a fight that I am sure very few of them would have seen.
Surely the would look at his more recent perfomances and rise to stardom?
They are not averse to guys who have lost and come back - look at Hopkins. Didn't he lost his debut. And how many times has ODLH lost? They still love him!!

Re: Report from Haye's press conference
I actually think the defeat could act in Haye's favour because he will always have that air of vulnerability about him.
Will he gas?
Will he get chinned?
Both plausible outcomes in almost any fight from this point on assuming he treads the path he mapped out at the press conference.
This will help sell fights in the future, fans will be on the edge of their seat for every minute of every round when Haye is in against a decent fighter.

Anyway, semantics aside Charlie, can you not see any merit in my point? You strike me as a reasoned chap.
Do people who bang on about how great they are at something, before they have actually done it, not annoy you? It's not exactly classly.
I am one of Haye's biggest fans. Along with others on here I said he would easily beat Macca, but there were many who said we were deluded for calling it a mismatch.
I actually think he is touched with gold. But this bragging, led by Booth, gets on my wick.
Big up your fights, big up your fighters. Make the best of the facts that are there.
But I just cannot take to someone who tells us how great they are all the time when they haven't backed it up.
Re: Report from Haye's press conference
I'm talking about most people's perspective on Haye in a way. He's got everything, he's clever, he's talented, he's good looking, he's articulate, he's rich, he's brave and he's a nice guy but why don't the majority of the general public know who he is then? I believe because he has a "1" in the defeats bracket. I actually tested a few mates who doesn't really know too much about boxing and just generally watch the big fights and not one knew who David Haye was, nevermind what he had actually achieved. He should be our the most famous boxer we have now because he's stepping up against the best fight after fight. And we can all admit that neither Hatton, Calzaghe, Arthur, Khan, Rees or anyone other British fighter has done that but Haye's way down the pecking order behind Khan, Hatton and Calzaghe. I mean I can honestly say that I believe why the majority of the public don't know him is because he has a loss (and they don't care who it's to) - it's still a defeat and that's why Hatton, Khan and Calzaghe are so popular, because they have massive unbeaten runs (apart from Hatton who lost th one of the best boxers ever). If Haye still had his "0" then we would be paying PPV for his fights instead of Setanta or BBC and he would've been with Golden Boy promotions a lot earlier (23 fights in) and headlining HBO.
I love boxers stepping up like Haye did and testing theirselves. He got beat, big wow - it's hardly the end of the road but if Haye wasn't as brave as he is then we would've had another Junior Witter on our hands. I just wish we could match boxers like the yanks do, tough instead of fighting people with massively losing records. And if they get beat, then it could help them, like Haye.

Re: Report from Haye's press conference
What i like about Haye ist hat he is not going to do a Calzaghe and going to hang around a Dead Weight and Dominate it for 10+ Years.
Going to HW as Soon as Possible. Something Calzaghe should have done but chose to Stay at SMW for 10 years and wasted All his Talent there.
I guess the British Fans will love him, World Scene, no Chance.

I think it's because he didn't sign with Sports Network, not because he has a loss.Dioufy wrote:I'm talking about most people's perspective on Haye in a way. Re: Report from Haye's press conference
Yeah, let's go down the Gavin Rees, Kevin Mitchell and Alex Arthur route. Perhaps he could've fought for a vacant belt and defended it a zillion times. He doesn't need Sports Network - he never has I reckon. He's got the sense to make it big on his own but when a Sports Network fighter loses they seem to drift off for a long while, and Maccarinelli was only "big" because he was Calzaghe' best mate and Enzo was his trainer - Haye should stay with Booth, but Booth is this "massive" trainer, so probably another reason why Haye isn't known too much.

Find It more daft than annoying.Do people who bang on about how great they are at something, before they have actually done it, not annoy you? It's not exactly classly.
They should only be matched tough If their ready, just throwing them Into the lions den so soon could damage someone who could be good enough eventually through experiance.I just wish we could match boxers like the yanks do, tough instead of fighting people with massively losing records. And if they get beat, then it could help them, like Haye.

I can't wait until someone breaks the monopoly of Franky and Enzo - perhaps David and Adam will?

Re: Report from Haye's press conference
Arthur did go the British, Euro and Commonwealth route before he got his WBO title. Mitchell doesn't seem to be going the WBU way either.
Re: Report from Haye's press conference
Arthur has been matched perfectly and will lose to the first class guy put in front of him.

Re: Report from Haye's press conference
I think Arthur's world class, just not elite world level although If Pacqiuao can get to elite level then It's not out the question.
Valero hasn't fought world class guys for years and Isn't criticised for fighting Japanese level fighters mostly.

Re: Report from Haye's press conference
You think Arthur's world class then? On what basis? Beating Sergey Gulyakevich and Willie Limond as his best two wins? He's good but world class? Nah, he's a good European level operator and will be beat when he steps up.

Do we all remember this - and I got coated for it.Maelstrom wrote:Why do people who want to achieve something have to come out with a massive fanfare and stroke their ego so much?
Why can't they just get their head down, do the job and prove to everyone what they are about?
This kind of stuff makes me want them to fail.
To be honest, it isn't so much Haye but smug faced Booth.
I can see the smile on his face now as he was putting everyone 'on notice'.
Jesus mate... who the HELL are you?
Talk about riding off the back of a naturally talented fighter. I reckon I could have trained Haye and got him to a world title!
Let's ask Spencer Fearon and Sugar Ray Clay Jones Junior whatshisname about how good he is.
One thing in common with that mob.... all style, no substance.
I just hope Haye isn't dragged to their level...
Well the fanfare has stopped and these guys look like mugs. Promoting is no easy game....
Pride comes before a fall.

Re: Report from Haye's press conference
It was obvious. Perfect matchmaking only made him look good - the pundits bang on about his win over Koba Gogoladze for this 'interim' title shit (I heard it once on Saturday too on the Khan undercard). But these people don't tell you that Koba got banged out in one round after the Arthur fight by someone with a 13-5 record. It's a joke, and some people need to take off the rose-tinted blinkers (Max).
