OJAY PULLS OUT OF FIGHT 100.....

Post by Big Bad Wolf »

I have just heard that Ojay has pulled out of his 100th fight!!

Apparently, the matchmaker refused to give him a fair fight!! And do you know what, i don't blame Ojay, especially when i heard who the opponent was. Also, i hear that the only reason this matchmaker insisted he fight this guy is cos this boxer has the matchmakers name on his shorts!! How stupid!!!

I, definately will NOT be going to this show now, without Ojay, theres no one worth watching. And it sounds like a micky mouse promotion, the event should be called "a night with the amateurs" cos 5 or 6 of the fites are pro debuts!!!

Has anyone have anything to add?

Well given that you haven't told us who he was due to fight, how can we comment?

Sorry i don't see what the problem is.

What i'm assuming just from looking at Goode's record is, he won his first 12 against a bunch of journeymen with losing records like he was supposed to. He has no power and couldn't put any of them away. And as soon as he made a step up, albeit a very small step up, he lost. Twice.

Unless i'm getting mixed up and you think Ojay should be in a more competitive fight?

I don't see what the problem is here, he is not giving away weight, the fella has lost his last two (against average guys) and the fella is no puncher.
Who does he want, Charlie Zelenoff!!

In the same vein as "bouncebackability" people should now petition for the term "pulling a Zelenhoff" - whenever a fighter quits the commentator should say "well, its a shame, he's pulled a Zelenhoff here tonight"

Ojay was offered his 100th fight and now he’s blown it. He was only prepared to fight 4x2 against somebody he could easily beat. With a ‘seasoned pro’ like Ojay acting like an opera diva no wonder a promoter would go for some new talent. There are 4 pro debuts on this promotion out of a total of 8 or 9 fights – when are new pros supposed to get their start if not here?

Okay.. I have just been informed that the reason Ojay pulled out is not solely due to the opponent.. It’s mainly due to the politics that are involved, and those involved know what I am talking about. You mention 4x2's? But as you know well enough, that’s all the board are prepared to allow Ojay (43) to do! The man has been boxing for over 16 years and promoters think they can take the p!ss thinking that people like Ojay don’t have all their faculties, but never underestimate people!

As for Boxers starting somewhere, yes you're right, but 5 pro debuts in one afternoon? Come on, that’s ridiculous.. If you ask me, the whole show is a rip off, only 2 pro boxers on the bill - Booth and Theophane!!! Ojay did good to pull out, he started his career in front of 40,000 people on the Watson v Eubanks bill, and to end his career on a show like this is a joke!! Better to quit on 99 mate and have the respect you have!!

To end a career at York Hall in front of an enthusiastic crowd wouldn’t have been a bad way to go out.

An examination of the card indicates 4 (not 5) pro debuts. If you think it’s a rip-off, I take it you won’t be buying the PPV!

I really hope that OJ gets his 100th fight, he really deserves it, I have no idea what issues you are talking about but If I was OJ I would take the fight, even if I fought for free. This is a low risk fight, even if he didn't win he won't get bashed up.
It would be nice for him to have a big send off but this is pro boxing and unfortunately no one cares, esp if you have pissed off a few promoters.
The only recent centurian who had a big deal made about it was Nigel Rafferty and thats cause he sold all the tickets.
Winston Burnett had to go to the U.S cause he couldn't get relicensed
All the other ones have turned up as the opponent and taken their pieces of silver along with pride and satisfaction that they have smelt that stench of fear on 100 occasions

Spot on Mario. Danny has been fighting journeymen for a while until he fought Jay Morris and had some lucky decisions in the process. Think Dirk watched him fight Cottier and thought he lost that too.

I detest Danny Goode, he is such an awful boxer and all the baggage around him, getting walked into the ring with local table dancers whilst a DJ mixes his music live on stage, come on, its Southampton Guildhall not a WBC title fight in Las Vegas. He never had the skills to back up his brashness. Clearly lost a couple of decisions, myself and Old Bones Ian cannot work out how he beat Adams when he had a 10-8 round, had a couple of points deducted for holding and lost nearly ever round!

Didn't see the Colltier fight.

BUT the biggest thing I hate? Going to the local strip club and seeing posters for Dangerous Danny (real name Kenny) Goode plastered everywhere, got chucked out once for ripping one down!

Sounds like a South Coast version of Walsall's Matty ‘Too Hot’ Hough. He was always led to the ring by two barely-clothed females from Legs 11 in Brum. Still, he did once date both of them (not at the same time, mind) so I suppose he can be let off for that one. His big-headed boasts caught up with him – Max Maxwell smashing him to defeat for the Midland Area title earlier this year.

so why is this not a suitable opponent for a 100th fight but it would have been ok for numbers 30-99

has ojay suddenly developed ambition?

Wasn't that fussed about the ring entrance just more pissed off that he wasn't that great, he had the glitz and glamour but not the actual tools to back it up.

His style was two jabs, clinch, two jabs, clinch, wave to crowd, do a fance, two jabs, clinch.

Nowt wrong with that proposed match. No offence to Jay Morris, but he beat Goode so he can't be very...well...good.

And as for pro debuts, I quite like them. There must be nothing more scary than that for a lad, in sporting terms.

I vividly remember this lad making his debut:

www.britishboxing.net/boxers_17416-Ricky-Colquhoun.html

Completely, absolutely froze. Not sure he even threw a punch, never mind landed one. Domvill was a bit embarrassed and tried to console the lad after he stopped him.

So, in short, you never know what you're getting.

Oh jesus. This is the kind of thing that really winds me up. I didn't see this and I am annoyed. No substance whatsover and, by the sounds of it, very little style..
