Post by AnitoKid »

Here is an interesting piece of boxing history, friends!
Did you know that a Filipino challenged Sugar Ray Robinson
for his World Welterweight Championship on June 28, 1948?

And I kid you not! It's one awesome find!

Much thanks for looking everyone!

Did you know that a Filipino was possibly the greatest of all flyweight champions?

I have read some about Pancho Villa.

Just a thought, could there be some video clips of some of his fights?

There are films of his fights with Jimmy Wilde and Johnny Buff.

Take a look on YOUTUBE.

Here is a video of two great fighters.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrH6OidT ... 4044185676

Look at the size of Saddler's arms and deltoids--he was a middleweight there who could weigh 126.
He was on you every second and every punch from him was dangerous.

Look at how southpaw Flash Elorde effectively uses his right jab, his footwork, his fighting inside, his right hook, his straight left hand.

Also, here are some other interesting facts about my dad. I am sure no one has broken his record. I would love to see him recognized by the boxing world for the records he set. They are all verified.

1) Flyweight Champion of the South at the age of 13
2) Southern A.A.U. Diamond Glove Champion at the age of 14
3) National A.A.U. Diamond Glove Champion at the age of 14 (he won the national championship in April and turned 15 in June of 1942 - I have a copy of the newspaper article in his book that will be coming out the end of June).
4)Turned Pro and became the Featherweight Champion of the South at the age of 15.

To my knowledge, he still holds the above records.

My dad was just inducted into the California Boxing Hall of Fame on June 21. It was a wonderful event. He also received the Joe Louis Humanitarian medallion. My dad is 81 and is finally being recognized for all of his accomplishments.

If you are interested, his book is completed and it is WONDERFUL!! He personally signed the first 100 (first edition). This one may be a collector's item in the future since he doesn't plan to sign anymore. He also has available CD's of his Robinson/Docusen fight and his Fernandez/Docusen fight (which he won). If interested, you can contact me via my e-mail at [email protected]

Cool!!! I got your e-mail. My grandmother (my dad's mother) had 6 sons. When I was born, my dad let his mother name me. She named me Patricia Ann Docusen.
