Ambling Alp wrote:It's time for another Hall of Fame Election. The deadline for submitting a ballot is Noon CDT on May 15, 2008. I will total the ballots shortly after that.
A brief summary of the rules:
-A voter can vote up to 25 names. (If you vote for more than 25, your entire ballot doesn't count.)
-A fighter's last fight has to be before May 15, 1998 to be eligible.
-You can change your vote. Your last vote before the deadline will be the one counted.
-Candidates who are named on atleast 75% of the ballots are elected.
Go to the Boxrec Hall of Fame Sticky (p.2) for more complete rules.
To vote, just list your selections on this thread. (Don't put them on the Hall of Fame Sticky or any other thread.)
It would be appreciated if you list your selections in alphabetical order.
It's a good idea to check every name that other voters have on their ballot. You may find someone that you overlooked.
So far there had a been a good variety of fighters from different era's, with the exception of the lack of fighters elected from the 1880's and 1890's. Hopefully people will consider the best fighters from that era. There has been decent representation of different weight classes (though only one flyweight has made it), styles, etc. Hopefully that will continue.
Fighters already elected: Muhammad Ali,Lou Ambers,Henry Armstrong,Abe Attell,Carmen Basilio,Wilfred Benitez,Nino Benvenuti,Panama Al Brown,Charlie Burley,Tony Canzoneri,Marcel Cerdan,Ezzard Charles,Kid Chocolate, Billy Conn,Jack Dempsey,George Foreman,Bob Fitzsimmons,Tiger Flowers,Bob Foster,Joe Frazier,Joe Gans,Kid Gavilan,Wilfredo Gomez,Harry Greb,Emile Griffith,Marvin Hagler,James Jeffries,Harold Johnson,Jack Johnson,Eder Jofre,Stanley Ketchel,Jake LaMotta,Sam Langford,Benny Leonard,Ray Leonard,Sonny Liston,Duilio Loi,Yommy Loughran,Joe Louis,Rocky Marciano,Mike McCallum,Jimmy McLarnin,Packey McFarland,Terry McGovern,Carlos Monzon,Archie Moore,Jose Napoles,Reuben Olivares,Carlos Ortiz,Wille Pep,Ray Robinson,Barney Ross,Sandy Saddler,Salvador Sanchez,Michael Spinks,Dick Tiger,Gene Tunney,Barbadoes Joe Walcott,Mickey Walker,Jimmy Wilde,Ike Williams, and Carlos Zarate.
We are going to do a couple of new things this time. There will be another thread that will be called a "Discussion Thread". On it you can express opinions regarding the Boxrec Hall of Fame. It will be a good opportunity for you to champion the cause of partuclar fighters that you feel should make it or shouldn't. That should be a lot fun.
That thread will be for Discussion only. Voting must be on this thread.
Also, we are going to encourage people to name one fighter on their ballot that they consider the most worth and briefly why. You don't have to do this to vote. However, it may help the cause of that fighter.
Lets have fun everyone!
To get things started, here is my ballot:
Sammy Angott
Joe Brown
Jack Britton
Miquel Canto
"Nonpariel" Jack Dempsey
George Dixon
Gene Fullmer
Khaosai Galaxy
Fighting Harada
Beau Jack
Johnny Kilbane
Ted Kid Lewis
Nicolino Locche
Lloyd Marshall
Kid McCoy
Manuel Ortiz
Eusebio Pedroza
Pascual Perez
Aaron Pryor
Luis Rodriguez
Tommy Ryan
Vincente Saldivar
John L. Sullivan
Freddie Welsh
Holman Williams
I am choosing Fighting Harada as the fighter that is the most worthy. I feel that he is the only fighter that one can make a legitimate arguement as being the best of alltime of a major weight class (Bantam) that hasn't made it yet. He was also the flyweight champion as well.
I have nothing against Harada and I think he would be a worthy inclusion however I remember after Lionel Rose beat him and took the title to the mexicans someone wrote that they could never get Harada to do that. Is that a fair comment?
