I wouldn't put someone down like Mayorga or Mayweather would, I'd mix the arrogance and cockiness with a bit of class, for example I'd say "I respect what my opponent has achieved and his abilities but there's no way this guy's gonna beat me". Sure people would still hate me, but why let what other people think of you worry you. At the end of the day, all successful sportsmen/women are arrogant in someway because they have to be.

The coke and hookers part is a bit over the top, but sure i'd buy a mansion, own expensive supercars etc. If you've made your millions through sports or whatever why shouldn't you splash the cash? It's your money, you've earned it.

I agree Hatton's man of the people routine can be tiresome but still see him as one of the best we have produced, Tysuzu annihilated Mitchell only 7 months before he fought Hatton and he was still very close to his best, in my opinion best performance by Brit since Honeyghan beat Curry. He seems a nice enough guy and unsure why those who know their boxing seem to dislike him so much. Khan is arrogant but he does have talent and the fact that Calzaghe is quiet doesn't mean he's devoid of personality, seems pretty modest to me given what he's achieved and he is arguably THE best boxer Britain has produced. I reckon a lot down to jealousy.

I think a lot of it is down to expectation. We all know that Hatton and Calzaghe are good, and we knew Khan was a special amateur, and expect him to be a top quality pro. When you're at that top level, you get judged by a different standard.

Calzaghe and Hatton, for instance have both achieved far more than Froch or Witter. Yet Joe and Ricky get far more criticism than that pair, because they're at the top. Of course, there's a lot of petty stuff thrown in as well. But when you're at the top, you're there to get shot at.

I have no problem with anyone giving it the big one, as long as they back it up. Christ, I used to love Naz. But equally, I don't care if Hatton plays the humble card. Maybe it's false, and certainly those of us who've followed him for the last ten years have heard it all before. But if he's happy in the area he grew up in, why slate him for being the guy that made it? Yes, he's different from the guys that have to work 9 to 5 in dead end jobs, but I have no reason to doubt him when he says that the mates he had as a kid are the same people he's friends with now. It's not all a marketing ploy.

Unfortunately it's a british disease to slag successful fighters. It won't make me popular but most of the posters here are never-will-have, fat, losers and are jealous of the top guys. Also the internet provides a safe and anonymous way to slag winners off.

The grief Hatton gets here is so beyond reason. He has made mistakes like anyone. But he has got boxing back on the front pages, has fought the best, and has provided good fights. He should be celebrated not berated.

I agree totally there mate. I don't understand the criticism he gets but I guess that's the English mentality - it doesn't make sense because we crave success in sport but when we find someone who has been successful we slag them off. It's not just Hatton, it's Calzaghe and Khan as well. I also understand the frustration of not fighting the best from early on in their career but that shouldn't be reason for defamatory comments about them. I don't like or rate Junior Witter but I wouldn't be slagging him off on the internet daily, or everytime he wins - I crisitise his performances in a reflective and obscenest manor instead of ridiculously insulting remarks. It would actually be funny for some of the lads on here to say some of these comments to their faces - their asses would soon close.
