HATTON / PINTO PREVIEW

Aprils fools?
Hatton Vs Pinto preview
By “J”

Fast approaching on April 3rd is Ricky Hatton’s forthecoming WBO interim title against unbeaten Brazilian prospect Kelson Pinto at the MEN arena Manchester. And don’t blink fight fans it could be explosive.

Ricky Hatton takes up the baton that Junior didn’t want to or was injured for depending on what reports you believe. Hatton looking to consolidate on recent almost punch perfect performances against Phillips and Tackie will be wanting to send a message out the rest of light welterweight division with a consummate performance. (In particular to fellow up and coming rival Miguel Cotto who has recently been so impressive in his dismantling of Vicoriano Sosa.)

Pinto according to his record hasn’t really fought at the top level and could be expected to be outclassed and possibly out of his depth against Hatton, but closer examination shows a fighter who is building a record. Most of his fights have been in his native Brazil but he brings with him a record that suggest he has been blasting opponents out of the ring without too much trouble. (20-0-0 -18 by KO) 11 INSIDE A ROUND!

So Hatton should do well to give the Brazilian the respect a big puncher deserves, Mauro Lucero looks a handy scalp on Pinto’s record having mixed it (albeit unsuccessfully) against the likes of Francisco Bojada, Hecto Quiroz and former Cotto victim Cezar Bazan.

A rangy light welterweight and obviously advantage the extra leverage and power that a man of six foot at light welterweight, this could also be his downfall as Hatton will undoubtedly look to take the sting out of Pinto’s punchers with the famed murderous “bodysnatching” punches to the midriff.
The question is will Hatton fight his usual style off the front foot or be more circumspect in the earlier rounds as he was against Tackie, trying to keep Pinto off balance in order to negate the obvious punch power Kelson brings with him.

Many have been critical of Hatton saying he is protected and “Franck Warren’s cash cow” I firmly believe this will be disproved in the coming months as Ricky marches toward a meaningful World Title tilt against one of the top five.
If Ricky is what I believe him to be, one of the most exciting prospects for a many a year to come from these shores, then I expect him to dominate after having a look in the first round, going on to win in the mid rounds (5-7) by stoppage.
However against someone like Pinto its always possible you could be made to look an April Fool!

Ill be ringside and do a report after I’ve watched the video of it!
Cheers all enjoy the fight (and undercard).

Well I've already told the forum about my dream. Pinto just can't miss Hatton with his hurtful 2-fisted attacks. The punches are fast and straight, Hatton cannot avoid them. Every time he gets close he takes 3 or 4 bruising shots to the face and head.

In 4 rounds it's all over, brave Ricky can stand up to it no longer.

I'm bloody worried!

Kilburn - Don't get too worried just yet.

Being a Sports Network show, there is still time for Pinto to drop out "injured", and Ivan UpperCut from Latvia to step in instead with 2 days notice....
