Shroeder was great. He said some funny things that, after a good deal of thought, I took out of the interview.

The fact that He also ,told me there will be no more interviews is great for BBN too.

Nice exclusive there Kev. Even his trainer doesn't sound too confident. Audley has been sooooo cautious is his matchmaking so far, you'd think he's seen this guy and doesn't rate him too highly.
He's probably more Floyd Paterson than Sonny Liston in the chin department.
Another blow out for Big Aud I reckon.

There was a good example of the bullshit these tin-pot titles generate when the London Metro ran an interview with Hersisia.
The reporter was amazed when Hersisia admitted he wasn't the real heavyweight champion of the world.
The Metro actualy thought Audley was going for the legit world title!

Yeah it does worry me how this "title fight" is going to be presented to the public. Sure we had Inverdale talking very sarcasticly about the validity of the WBF belt when the match was first announced but still, those words "World Heavyweight Championship" are very powerful.

Audley better not be looking to gain any respect from this.

Audley explained this is a stepping stone to greater things and hopes it will enable him to make better matches.

I think if the guy didnt have the title he would still fight him. He is ranked above Aud in the European rankings which is the title Aud is really after.

I don't mind the fight, it could be a good one and I'll be watching it.
But to bill it as a world title is just slapstick comedy, whatever Aud says about it just being a stepping stone.
Better if they called it something like The Tescos Heavyweight Championship ( THC ) that way the press and public won't get too confused.

Good idea MW that would be much more suitable.

Whatever Matchfixer would like to believe about Harrisons motives for this fight, there are going to be a lot of people afterwards who aren't up to speed with boxing that will assume they've just watched a world heavyweight title fight. That means world class fighters. That means the best boxing has to offer.

It's a sad state of affairs.

Kilburn, you are totally right. Because most of us on this forum are hardcore boxing fans, it is hard for us to judge how these things are received by the general public/sports fan. When the announcer says it's for the (enter initials here) WORLD title, why wouldn't a casual fan assume it's the two best fighters on the planet in the ring?

Then they might end up watching a farce, demeaning the sport in their eyes and understandably so. It's maddening for us.

The average man on the street will think Audley's a WORLD CHAMPION when he beats Hershia. The alphabet titles used to wind me up, but I've given over caring these days, if people are willing to have the wool pulled over their eyes, more fool them.

I wouldn't rate them, just lump them in with all the other phony titles floating around.
There's the top four, then the rest. Whichever one is worse varies, depending on who can offer up the poorest "world" title fight each week.
Which is a close run thing.

BTW - I was mistaken saying it was Heresisia being interviewed in the Metro. It was acutaly Audley

I'll be able to rest when I become the legitimate heavyweight champion of the world, once I am the best heavyweight out there. I'm fighting for a version of the world title. I'm not saying I'm number one now, but it's a version with one governing body, like the Champions League with one body or the FA Cup with another. But, at some point, Arsenal and Manchester United will clash. And at some point, Audley Harrison will be fighting whoever the number one American - or Ukrainian - is in the next 12 months.

to be fair Aud has stated this isnt a "real world " title.

He makes me laugh. He goes on about how "boxing shoots itself in the foot by not explaining things to the fans" but surely he needs the ignorance of the fans in order to get away with this charade? Otherwise why on earth is he bothering with this title when it will not increase his true boxing standing one iota?

As a stepping stone? He hasnt got that many options warren as we know is full of shit and has been an Aud knocker, so he wont fight any of the brit heavies due to politics Tv rights etc, so that door is closed to him so he is using it as a lever to bigger and better things?

Bit idealistic but possible dont you think?
All I know is I said if he states he is a world champ (which he hasnt as yet) I will slate him badly and I know he hasnt and has said its as a stepping stone, so he has my full suppport. Not that that means anything. 8)
