Danny Williams fiasco
Watch the video of the fight from Friday. At 17:30 of the vid keep your eyes on the bell to the left and see why the sixth round finished after just 90 seconds. seeing is believing!

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
well firstly thanks for the link, ive been looking forward to watching that..
im astounded, dont know where to start, standing counts re-invented from the amateurs !! standing count then a 2 point deduction for the same punch !!! one long count !!! someone with a press/organisational/promotional credential (beige suited chap, same one who entered the ring at end of bout !!) ringing the bell to end a round half way through !! danny having to sort out his own tape on his glove !!!
all in all the ref needs shooting with his own shit, as do all of the officials. credit to danny and his team for staying focussed although danny nearly lost his cool a few times.
bit of an education that fight really, and i have seen fighters 'stopped' in germany for less, so danny can count himself lucky on that score !!
but well done mr williams, but it took you 4 rounds to get going.

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
To be a little bit fair alot of European Referee's do administer an 8 count - completely against the rules, but he is not exclusive.
As for the fight - Danny looked sluggish, terrible foot speed, and more alarmingly, terrible punch resistance. Everytime the other guy landed clean Danny would temporarily go - reminded me of the Sam fight in that respect.
Problem is - he is not elusive in any way - his head is static and he stays in punching range all the time. Have to say, I think Audley beats Williams now.

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
That 'chap in the beige suit' was none other than the show's promoter Ahmet Oener! He saw his fighter about to get knocked out and rang the bell with 90 seconds to go. Hey, we've all been there. Let's not judge the guy.
In all seriousness, Oener should have his license revoked for what went on during that fight. I've never seen anything like it. He's a disgrace, as well as retarded enough to get caught on camera doing his deed. Disgusting advert for the sport of boxing and just another example of why boxing will always be viewed as the sporting world's deformed, one-legged ginger step child.

That fight was crazy.
Re: Danny Williams fiasco
I am shocked... do you think that referee had seen a boxing match before? That was worse than Roger Tillerman and I never thought I'd say that about any reff, did anyone know why he deducted the point in the 5th round?
What a complete kunt the manager should have his license taken off him!

Maybe John Thaxton should look at his proposed Euro title fight against Juan Melero, if that ends up in Spain then he could be up against it.

Bit rought around the edges, but some evidence of form there from DW. Jab looked sharper, I suspect Big John could be in trouble when they meet.
Re: Danny Williams fiasco
The lard mountain (McDermott, I mean) will most likely be dumped on his butt permanently inside five rounds. He's nowhere near the class of even a washed up Williams.DavidPayne wrote:Bit rought around the edges, but some evidence of form there from DW. Re: Danny Williams fiasco
danny, for all of his faults still posesses a fighting heart and a decent equalizer, these two commodoties ake him a danger to any opponent. macdoughnut is in real trouble, he will be pooping himself before the bout, williams hits a lot harder than skelton, and look what the 'bedford hugger' did to maccy d.
williams inside 3 i reckon !!

Fookin love Danny Williams.
He was hurt pretty easily once or twice, but basically after a few rds looked well on top. Just overpowered and clubbed the guy out of there, simultaneously beating various officials and people around the ring.
He seems to want to go over old ground with McDermott-- once he clubs him can we have a top 10 world ranked heavyweight please?
Jameel McCline anyone?

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
Danny has a habit of making supposed easier looking fight , hard work.
Forget about the dodgy Ref and the promoter ,Danny was rocked and hurt a few times by a comparitive novice on Friday night. so the fight with McDermott might not be quite the walk in the park, some of you think.
McDermott has a decent dig, and good jab. He finished off Reid well in his last fight. I know Reid has never had a great chin, but it was a good win for John.
Of course the Skelton fight looks bad, I think John panicked that night, never got going in there.
But if his mind is right, he can cause problems.

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
Yes i would start Danny a big favourite, but he does seem to be fighting down to some of these guys level.
I just hope that John does himself proud , so he can forget about the Skelton loss, thats got to have weighed on his mind alot.

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
I was very impressed with Williams in that video because he could have just walked out with that reff and it would be perfectly reasonable as a reff who is that bad is dangerouse for both the fighters, however he didn't he just altered his game plan to concerntrate more on the imperitive of KOing his Foe.
Re: Danny Williams fiasco
Wow, that Fight was an Absolute Disgrace.
Danny Could have Won at the end of Round 5. I dont know why the Round did not Continue after Danny Williams Knocked Down Airich, think the Promoter was just delaying the Fight.
Seriously, that Referee needs to review Boxing Rules and that Promoter needs to be Banned.

Danny Williams has urged the British Boxing Board of Control to take action after his controversial victory over Konstantin Airich in Bilbao on Friday.
"I knew I had no chance of winning unless I stopped him," said Williams.
"It was incredible. There were rounds ending early and I lost count of the number of points I had taken away.
The BBBofC's general secretary Simon Block said he was awaiting a video of the contest with interest: "I am very concerned. I won't hesitate to take action if it is deemed appropriate."
Williams added: "I took the fight because Airich didn't look too good on the videos. But I couldn't believe how hard he punched. His power was up there on a level with Vitali Klitschko.
"I wasn't mentally prepared for that kind of power. But I got used to it, and everything that was going on just spurred me on to get the win."

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
Was that Ref one of the judges at Rendall Munroes' recent EBU title defense?
The EBU should never use him again, but i bet they do.
Imagine if that was a football match, the Referee would end up in court.

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
It doesn't make a difference, Roger Tillerman (who was judge in the Reid fight in germany) was judging the Jon Thaxton I was the only person around me who had the decency to BOO him when he was announced!Old bones Ian wrote:Was that Ref one of the judges at Rendall Munroes' recent EBU title defense?

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
I've just watched the fight, WTF was all that about???
The ref needs suspending and whoever rang the bell after 90 seconds needs making an example of. It's an attempt at match-fixing.
Well done Danny

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
So what do you all think the score was at the start of round 7, so 6 completed rounds. And with all the deductions from the ref
I've got it as 55-51 to Airich, is that right? as i got confused

The EBU probably won't give a crap unless Williams was Italian.

Re: Danny Williams fiasco
that was unreal
in the refs defence i think the williams 'knockdown' in the 2nd?????? was worthy of a 'standing count' as it seems the ropes could have held him up
but..........the rest was comical
who are those asian geezers who do williams corner - do they train anyone else ?? i noticed one of them tried gettin the refs attentin to have a winge between rounds but the head coach just told him to leave it cause it as pointless
well done williams thou
