Webpage of the event:
http://www.festivalcoe.org.ec/demo/inde ... porte)/425
The draw is up but only with the countries, no names.

I wonder why they have changed the date for the Pan Am Championships (not to be confused with the Pan Am Games). They used to be held the post-olympic year, every four years (in between two Pan Am Games).
Now it's held two months prior to the Olympics. What's the point? Of course nobody cares about the tournament. Only 54 boxers from 9 countries.

It doesn't make much sense to hold it so close to the Olympics. It would make more sense in non Olympic years. I guess Cuba wants to keep their boxers sharp without much competition.

I heard the cubans changed all their planned olympic preparation due to the possibility of defecting boxers. They had initially thought of going to England, France and China but changed their mind and went to Ukraine and Ecuador where none of their boxers will defect.

Ecuador has improved a lot lately. Porozo qualified while more experienced boxers like Abner Cotto, Angel Rodriguez, Miguel Marriaga and Jesus Cuellar all failed.

Only seven Cuban gold medals at the Pan American Championships after three colombians upset (well, really two because Eleider Alvarez' win was hardly an upset) their cuban opponents.

51: Andry Laffita (CUB)-Julião Neto (BRA) +7-7 (35-19)
54: Jonathan Romero (COL)-Yoandry Campos (VEN) WIN

75: Emilio Correa (CUB)-Yamaguchi Falcão (BRA) 17-2
81: Eledier Alvarez (COL)-Julio Cesar De La Cruz (CUB) 10-9

Can't believe Ugas lost to a Colombian.

I was very surprised too. Darley Perez is a very good boxer who beat ukrainian Olexandr Klyuchko at the World Championships but Ugas soundly outboxed him at the Pan Ams last year and he had two other victories over Perez. Maybe he underestimated the colombian or they're probably coming from heavy training and not peaked yet.
