ABAs: are you going?

Post by Ulysses »

Wondered if anyone was going to their local ABAs? Home Counties, North West, London Divs, Southern Counties etc. etc.
If so, anyone stand out as potential champions?

Yep I went to the South East London ABA's last night. The standard seemed notably lower than usual.

Sam Webb may go further in the competion (but sustained abadly damaged lip).

From the ones who actually boxed last night I would say Ian Lewison could go the further than anyone else but must work harder and use some straight punches too, not just hooks.

I agree about the standard, except the Reigate-Webb and Small-Webb bouts, which I thought were excellent, I thought Small just shaded it against Webb. Also, I thought Brambhatt looked good.
I would've thought the cut will prevent him from boxing on thursday in the London semis, we shall see.
I always thought that the winner of Small-Webb will be in with a chance of winning the whole thing.
I also think the crudely strong Ugandan, Isaac Zebra will be in with a shout of winning the full title.

For you Midlanders, the London champs are taking on their Midland counterparts at the Tile Hill social club in Coventry tomorrow.
There should be some cracking bouts, notably Fisher's Sam Webb against hot prospect Callum Johnson and James Boyd versus Junior McDonald of Fitzroy Lodge at heavyweight.

The ABA semis are in Portsmouth the following week.
