MCINTYRE STRIPPED - WTF IS THAT ALL ABOUT

Post by GlobalBox »

Tell you what, this stinks, the kid last fought on the final day of February, he had a defence lined up and then pulls out with an injury and they strip him.

I have no feelings towards either of the fighters and whilst it was a shame for Brook to have to wait for his chance, surely this is for one reason only.

We have to be very careful what we say as free speech seems to have gone out of the window concerning certain people on this site but don't no one ever tell me the BBBC are an independant body anymore, we all know why this has happened and frankly I think its appalling.

Brook now fights Barrie Jones for the vacant title and strangely enough that should just about keep Setanta happy and allow the promotion on that date to go ahead with a main title fight.

Game gets worse

Our Ref: SJB/LC/Let.16.06.08 Date: 6th June 2008

N O T I C E

BRITISH WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Following the consideration of the Stewards pursuant to Regulation 22.12(e) it has been decided to declare vacant the British Welterweight Championship owing to the continuing inability of Kevin McIntyre to make a Championship defence as a result of injury.

The Stewards will approve a match, subject to strict compliance with Championship Regulations and formalities, between KELL BROOK and BARRIE JONES to take place at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on the 14th June 2008, the scheduled date for the McIntyre v Brook defence.

Approval of this contest is also subject to the winner waiving six (6) months grace and defending when so ordered by the Stewards and to the contest taking place on the date as given with no postponement.

SIMON BLOCK
General Secretary

That says stripped to me, he defended on the 29th of February for christ sake.

Does not sound like he gets anything out of it, someone does though.

No disrespect to Brook or Jones but I cannot believe one of them is going to be British champion soon... neither deserve a shot IMO.

Brook definitely deserves a shot as he has been waiting for a long time now. Shouldn't Doherty be getting this shot instead of Jones though.

And what has Brook done to deserve to be the next in line and waiting... bugger all.... what has Brook done while he has been waiting.... bugger all.

There are some 20 fighters who wouldn't look idiotic fighting for the British title.... why not put Brook in an eliminator with ANY one of those.

Because, they keep on pulling out!! He shouldn't have to wait forever.

They shouldn't be pulling out of a fight with Brook anyway! It should be with a fight of a more deserving challenger.

Why not punish the opponent and them move one of the other 20 potential canditates to fill the role and fight Brook.

Because, he has already tried to fight about 5 different opponents in an eliminator and the British champion needs a mandatory challenger.

Well I would like to see someone who has beaten a top ten domestic opponent to get the manadatory shot.

So would I, but Kell is an avoided fighter for some reason, so deserves the shot more than most of the division.

Well I am going to agree to disagree, there a few guys who have had wins over top ten fighters never been noted by the BBBoC.

I cannot remember the likes of these being mentioned.
Jennings,
Watson,
Mutley,
Lomax,
Young
Magee

And several others.

This doesn't look good, does it?

There's me on my high horse rattling on about the supposed sanctity of the Lonsdale and then this happens...maybe I've been wearing the old rose-tints all along.

The only thing (being generous) I can think of is that McIntyre is knackered and won't be back for a good while. Someone has to fight for it, at the end of the day.

Kell has been waiting around for a long time now (relatively) so perhaps he deserved some kind of shot, I don't know.

But the bare facts are these - neither of these fighters has beaten anyone any good. That's that. One could make an argument about Brook stopping Karl David I suppose but that's pushing it.

Plus, have a look at the British welter rankings...they aren't the best. There aren't many there who would step in against Brook at short notice (he has got a lot of potential and is a strong lad).

I think there are a load who would be thinking "well I probably would never get a chance to fight for the British title" so would give it a short notice job.

Well, Ian, you know Francis Jones - would he do it? What about Taz Jones?

Not the greatest fighters - but everybit as proven at Kell.

Young was one of the fighters who pulled out of a fight with Brook. I think Lomax is still out with a cut and I am not sure whether they ask WBU champions if they want to fight in eliminators or not.

Doherty should've been in with McIntyre in the first place and now that he's been stripped, he should be in with Brook.

Must admit i was surprised when i saw this story. It just proves what we have always known, the British title is yesterdays news. The only reputable organisation on these isles is the World Boxing Union. They never would have got involved in such a farcical series of events. FULL STOP.

Shame for McIntyre but maybe his back problem will see him out the ring for some time. And Kell has waited long enough for a shot at the title IMO. Anyway Im well pleased GO KELL :TU: :TU:

also I would like to add kell by KO early to middle rounds. :D

For a fight to take place, an opponent has to step into the corner opposite.
Jesus - I find myself agreeing with Horse !
Whilst they may not admit it in public, several of the names mentoned in this thread have been offered the chance to face Brook.
Many have simply said no, others have said yes then developed problems leading to a withdrawal
Doherty is a prime example.
Of course he deserves a chance, but he's got to put his head through the ropes, simple as.
If you read the announcement carefully, the mandatory defence period has been removed.
McIntyre will be made mandatory, and whoever prevails will face Kevin as soon as he's fit.
I've talked about Kevin's injury on another thread.
Back injuries such as this can be very complicated and the worse thing a fighter can do is rush back.
Rhodes did this to silence critics when he fought Lockett.
In the intervening period, the board need to see the title fought for.
Like him or loathe him, too many people on here are too hell bent on conspiracy theories about Wazza.
Barrie Jones - he say yes.
The rest - they say no.
