STEVE “USS” CUNNINGHAM RESPONDS TO ENZO MACCARINELLI COMMENT
PHILADELPHIA (JUNE 2, 2008)—IBF cruiserweight champion Steve “USS” Cunningham saw some comments over the weekend from former WBO champion Enzo Maccarinelli in regards for the Welshman desiring a fight with Cunningham.
“Enzo’s people know that my promoter Don King and allegedly already had some preliminary discussions” said Cunningham. “Some complications happened to slow things up.”
“allegedly is going into the Hall of Fame this weekend so he knows what it will take for a classy champion like myself to get me over to United Kingdom”
“I just want to make the biggest and best fight possible in the Cruiserweight division.”

He better get Haye to change his mind about going up to heavyweight then....philly wrote:

Enzo obviously wants a strap again so Cunntingham is the man to go after. Big Enzo could win it too if he defends better than he did against Haye. Mind Hayes handspeed was incredible that night and Enzo had no answer for it. Enzo could do very well now Haye has moved up to HW.

If I were enzo I'd go into a confidence building fight before taking on Cunningham who IMHO is underated as a champion and could have given Haye a lot more trouble than Enzo did on that night (thats not to say he'd beat enzo styles make fights and all but it wouldn't be easy) comming off a loss he needs to take on someone who is of intermediate skill (like the guys he fought for "legitimate defences" I guess).
If I were him I'd go for Rob Calloway something of a name over hear cos he fought audley, good record to skill ratio and should extend him a couple of rounds befor obliging him and falling over!

Rob Calloway would be a spot on call for a comeback fight, chief support to a proper fight of course.
Like Sam Peter v Danny Williams or Amir Khan v Nate Campbell perhaps?

I think Cunningham could beat Enzo, even here in the UK.

So do I, that's why I'd certainly have a warm up fight if I were Enzo...Dioufy wrote:I think Cunningham could beat Enzo, even here in the UK.
However on balance I think Enzo not being involved in fights he could potentially lose played a big part in his loss to Haye... that and not being as good a boxer, Haye had gone down got up and wrestled Mock early in his career and came off the canvas to be undisputed champion, Enzo had fought an inactive and past it Wayne Braithwait! So if he really wants to establish himself as the best cruzer then he should take those fights... it will return his credability.

If Macca gets in the ring with Cunningham and beats him, and if Haye's heavyweight campaign comes unglued at some point, will we ever hear the end of it?
Re: STEVE “USS” CUNNINGHAM RESPONDS TO ENZO MACCARINELLI COMMENT
If Fragomeni wins the WBC title, then I think this would be the ideal comeback for Enzo.
Re: STEVE “USS” CUNNINGHAM RESPONDS TO ENZO MACCARINELLI COMMENT
Would you really go with someone who took Haye 9 rounds and hurt him in a come back, the reason I'd be more likely to go for Calloway is becuase I think that would be a deffinat win, if Enzo's confidence has taken a knock which it may have then perhaps Frag ain't the way to go first off...stujones wrote:If Fragomeni wins the WBC title, then I think this would be the ideal comeback for Enzo.
Having said that I hope Frag and Cunningham are both on the radar because they are interesting fights that the fans would like to see.
Don't think so will just mean that Haye was the best Cruzerweight by some distance and didn't quite make it at HW, and if people say shit then I'd embed a video of Enzo doing the chicken dance!Autobarn wrote:If Macca gets in the ring with Cunningham and beats him, and if Haye's heavyweight campaign comes unglued at some point, will we ever hear the end of it?

Josh,
I've seen Frago's fights since Haye - he's not the same... he's like 37 years of age.
He aint a big puncher, he didn't really trouble "chinny" Haye.... think he is ideal.
Think it would be a good fight also.

Perhaps so I haven't seen his post Haye fights but could see Enzo struggling with the guy who was in with Haye, I wonder who they'd make him fight for the WBC belt.stujones wrote:Josh,

Its been stated - but I have forgotton.
I don't think it was Kraj (the WBC #1) I thought it was against a guy I've never heard of.
If its Kraj, then I don't think Fragomeni will win.

Of course Herbie Hide holds the WBC international title!
Re: STEVE “USS” CUNNINGHAM RESPONDS TO ENZO MACCARINELLI COMMENT
Kraj is one of the most ordinary looking world class fighters I've ever seen. Steve Holdsworth had him behind after 5 or 6 rds vs Ismail Abdoul. I still can't believe he beat Matt Godfrey. Completely pedestrian fighter.stujones wrote:Its been stated - but I have forgotton.
