I just started watching. Caught last half of round 4. Appleby on the attack, but Simpson doing all right defensively, as Appleby is missing on most of his shots. Still, Appleby's landed more. According to stats, 190 to 168 in terms of landed blows

Rd 5

good right hand from A to start round, another good right hand. S backing up. another right by A, and down goes S! More of a slip than a full KD, but his hand hit the ground.

actually, it was a left hook that send S down in round 5

round 6

A gets S into a corner and throws a good combo. S gets out of it. Actually a better round for S as he puts together some punches. A with a nice flurry, but S with a good counter as round ends. Not sure what SkySports' view is right now, but they should give out their card shortly

Good fight so far, early on it looked like Simpson was going to be too experienced, landing clean nice jabs, Appleby has looked rough, over eager but is starting to gain some momentum.

I got this slight feeling that Appleby is gonna get knocked out late.

round 7

S starting to come forward, and A back up a bit. S lands some good body shots in the round and takes it. A throwing some bombs though.

round 8

A starting to show a bit of inexperience, as he's kinda just charging in behind no jab, and S is able to pick him off with some combos. Lots of clinching, but S definitely doing better work in this round. A just goes in with head down, no defense, and S can land body shots with ease. Some concern that S keeps looking at his corner, as if for advice.

round 9

much better round for A. Using the ring more, jabbing more, finding gaps in S's defense. A really throwing some big punches. A appears to have a second wind, looking much stronger than S right now. If A keeps this up, he'll sail home to a decision win or late KO

round 10

S just looks flat and tired. Being outworked and outboxed, according to commentary. Good round for A, as he continues to outwork and outland S.

round 11

Stats say Appleby outlanding Simpson 484-364.

better round for S, but pretty close. Both fighters throwing and landing, as defense appears to be gone with both men tiring.

Round 12

pretty even. Each guy landing punch for punch. Lots of hugging, as both guys are ready for the fight to end. I wouldn't argue with a 115-112 type decision.

On a critical note, I really wasn't impressed by Appleby. He kinda reminds me of Jason Litzau, as he has a tendency to move forward with his head down, throwing bombs without much thought behind setting up his punches. Also, he needs work on defense and ring generalship, as he's pretty raw out there. Of course, he's young, but I don't really see the fundamentals that you'd expect from someone so hyped.

114-115
113-115
113-115

All three in favor of Appleby -- the new British featherweight champion and winner of the Lonsdale Belt. Scotland's youngest ever featherweight champion. Congrats Appleby backers!

I certainly hope not. It's a pretty poor matchup in that Appleby wins based on sheer talent and ability over a relatively ordinary Simpson. I'd rather see Appleby work on his skills and then fight someone who can present a bit more of a test. It doesn't really serve Appleby's development to have him pick up bad habits by fighting guys he can simply outwork.

Chrispi - I thought two cards had it 114-115.

I had it Appleby by 1, I had a toilet break for the KD - was it a legit one, the replays didn't convince me. That of course won it for Appleby, and I think it cost Simpson a draw (cause I am sure two cards had it 114-115).

I thought it was an excellent fight - I would love to see a rematch.

I'd say it was a legit KD, as it was a good left hook that caused Simpson to go off-balance, touching the canvas.

I thought it was a good fight until the last 3 rounds, when stamina issues led to more clinching than boxing.

Oh, yeah, I may have been wrong with my scores. I was typing as I heard them, so I could've hit the wrong key.

Thought John won that Appleby could only work for half the rounds then gas and hold.

Appleby is very young so hopefully he'll become more polished along the way.

If Appleby had lost the decision, I would have picked Truscott over Simpson without doubt.
