So what did you make of Carl Froch's performance?

Defensively Froch was shocking and I agree it was difficult to give him any more than 2 of the first 7. The knockdown changed the fight but Froch, whether he "feels comfortable" with his left hand low or not, will simply have to change his style or be starched horribly by anyone with a half decent dig.
On the plus side he did the distance no bother, took some heavy looking shots flush on the chin without really wobbling and produced the goods with 'that' right hand.
As far as the 2/5 was concerned, I was flapping a fair bit until the 8th after persuading the missus to do a weeks wages on the Cobra as well. Would have been the couch and a week of earache if Frochy did not produce.

As you know, TheGoods, the odds on Froch went out to 1/3 a couple of days before the fight, but I checked yesterday, and they'd narrowed, so obviously some "smart" money went on Adamu. Froch nearly paid for his two-round 'warm-up' with Adamovich.

How does the Adamovich fight have any bearing here?

Froch just cannot fight on the back-foot.What is with the facing away from your opponent, hands down, and looking out of the corner of your eye, he did this countless times and didn`t always get away with it. was I mistaken or did he also get wobbled early on. Robin Reid would love to fight him...

The right hands he ate in the first six rounds had a lot to do with the naff warm-up with Adamovich. He looked impressive against Adamovich. But in terms of really sharpening him up, it was a wasted fight.

Those right hands he ate had nothing to do with the Adamovich fight. If you know anything about Froch you will know he has carried his left hand low for all of his professional career.

True. But he wasn't sharp enough to get out of the way either.

[quote="Loftgroov"]I did cringe at the BBC intro sequence.

"The best prospect in world boxing"

quote]

Totally agree mate, that intro was horrible, I am really pleased that the BBC is showing a bit of interest in the noble art these days but the standard of the presentation is sometimes poor.

Whilst watching the fight I found myself shouting at the commontators in fustration as much as I was shouting at Froch!

Did I hear Duke say "Herbie Hide is a huge heavyweight"?

As for Froch himself it was obviously not the performance we or himself wanted, I imagine. But hopefully it was a good learing 12 round fight for him at he will learn from it and develop as a fighter.

But his defence at time is shocking, he may feel comfortable with his left so low but when he steps up another level he WILL get KO'd or cut by a hard accurate puncher IMO.

At times his defence reminded me of Hameds in his last few fights.

But on the plus side his chin held up so his jaw aint glass, he went 12 tough rounds and he came from behind to win a fight against a limited but strong, awkward and determined opponent.

"At times his defence reminded me of Hameds in his last few fights."

Exactly, the Hamed minus the legendary reflexes

It makes me laugh, but some boxers do not actually practice defence, funny as it sounds, they don't practice it. Crazy.

the most worrying thing is, that in the past Froch has said that he's not gonna change anything. I hope he changes his mind cos he isn't quick enough to get away with his low defence. Very arrogant if he feels he can win a world title without any defensive improvement.

Yes, I can imagine Tony Dodson (who seemed to get dismissed by everyone on the Beeb last night) must have been kicking himself that he got injured and had to pull out. Dodson's long rights would have got home for sure, though I feel Froch would have outlasted Tony in the end as he did Adamu.
But the more punches a fighter takes, the shorter his career.

Just a promotional gimmick that came on at the end of the transmission last night. Carl Froch as a superhero called "The Cobra".

Well....I just hope Miguel Cotto didn't happen to tune in....
I thought exactly the same!
And Jim Neilly was back to his worst tonight. He kept saying that Adamu had fought his 12-rounder with Typsko "just over a month ago", or "just six weeks ago". It was 13 fornicating days ago. On February 28! Can't he add up!
As the performance I was dissapointed at first, he came through but how much of that 12 rounder effected Adamu, quite alot I would imagine. If Adamu hadn't have taken a count I would have scored either Froch by a round or a draw. Adamu was hitting Froch with alarming ease.

But Froch came through and hopefully will learn, he might like his "cool" arms down approach, but he aint got the reflexes to do it. He must fight differently or he's going to lose. Having said that, I was impressed with Adamu and not sure if he is a step down from Dodson.

As for Duke and Jim - they made some classic blunders.

Adamu faught Vitali Klitchko - yes, according to Jim.

Adamu is a world class fighter according to Duke (whose score card was way off).

I have to say though they were overshadowed by the blunders of Mike Goodhall. I think he's been a great ambassodor for boxing and a really enjoyable MC through the years, but it sounded like he needed a new set of glasses - what was with all those pauses.

Yes he was awful! I noticed he even had to stop and pause to check what weight division the fight was.

Did anyone else think Froch was going to go over at the end of the 5th? It was a cracking shot he got nailed with, for a second his legs looked like spaghetti.

Funniest quote I thought was from Robert McCracken afterwards: "Yeah Carl got caught with a couple of right hands but we'll work on that.."

I think the pauses happen when Goodhall is shuffling the top card to the back, he needs both hands to do it so the mic is away from his mouth for a split second too long.

In fairness, he did say Adamu lost to Vitali Tsypko, which he had.

Yes, what was McKenzie going on about, Adamu is hardly a world class fighter, though he did look a lot better than he did against Barney, when he looked like someone who had learnt to box 5 minutes before.

Froch has a long long way to go if he wants to become world class, he cannot rely on being able to find that big punch he found in the 8th. Had Froch not got Adamu down in the 8th, I think he would have lost.

didnt get to see the fight, was working...

but from what i have read one has to seriously think that Froch would have lost if Adamu hadnt fought less than 2 weeks earlier.

A 12 round fight takes a lot of you, especially if you have a style like Adamu...

Adamu must have clocked up a few miles travelling over the past few weeks, again extrememly draining.

I notice Adamu weighed in 4lbs under the limit???? whats all that about???

Being a professional, he should MEMORISE what he wants to say, like an actor learning their lines. he shouldn't need to read from cards....

The BBC boys had a bit of a nightmare.
The "Mark Prince" comments had me getting all confused and I'm sure somebody said that Adamu had lost to Vitali KLITSCHKO, which was also a little strange.

Worst of all was Duke's scorecard. What the hell was that allabout?!?!?

I had to laugh at Jim Neilly making out it was extraordinary that Adamu was boxing at super-middle after competing at light-heavy as an amateur. Yeah, life-altering stuff, Jim.
And Mike Goodall always makes a mistake when he announces a big fight. Always. It's quite funny waiting for the mistake to happen. Usually, he mispronounces a fighter's surname.

yeah i think he forgot that amateur is same day weigh in, often an hour before you fight. rather than 28 hours as a professional.
