Tell me about Red Burmann
Tell me about Red Burmann
On a previous thread Granberry and Dempseyfire expressed some knowledge about this
former top HW.
I have not seen any footage and am admittedly very ignorant on his exploits and career.
Would you guys be able to tell me about Red, if I can find any of his fights on film.
DF and Mr Gran have got me interested in him.
Thank you
Kym

Nothing?
Re: Tell me about Red Burmann
I know he won an Oscar for "Sayonara", but other than that, I'm clueless.

Cue to clip of terap furiously searching the internet for something to cut and paste. Or working on a 'story' of how he knew Burmann and how Burmann agreed with everything the great man said.Robinson wrote:Nothing?

collins has never made a post on the subject of boxing
and he NEVER will.
Just feminine ad hominum spite.
collins does not know how to spell Red Burman's name correctly.

I refer the honourable troll to the answer I gave earlier in the legendary Joe Bugner thread.
Terap, when you do find something on the net about Burmann, be sure to cut and paste it in here and pretend you wrote it yourself. If you could mix in one of your "Harold Johnson told me..." fantasies that would be great.
Thanks in advance, Big Fella.

Why don't you stop whining and post one of your stories. Perhaps how you and Harold and Red used to watch the fights together in your batchelor pad and how both guys always deferred to your superior knowledge.granberry wrote:collins offers his feminine, ad hominum filth on boxrec
with the 'moderators' blessing.
I can picture it now. The three of you on the sofa watching a fight on the TV.
Terap: Red, watch this southpaw. He'll punch himself in the face any minute now. Harold, were you a southpaw or a northpaw?
Re: Tell me about Red Burmann
Thanks for the pics Collins.
In the first pic, he looks like a big lad.
I am interested in Burman, because in I think the 'Holmes 50th defence'
Granberry and DF expressed that Burman was better than most if not
all of the 1980s HW.
So this naturally got me interested.
I wanted to know if they had seen any film of this top tier HW or what he
was like.
But thus far just some hominem limey snake has shown me some cool photos :P

I said Burman could outbox Trevor Berbick, I never said he was better than 'most if not all' of the HWs of the 1980s . . .
Re: Tell me about Red Burmann
I know ...
I was trying to draw you out ;)
I am interested in seeing his film. I am impartial to the outcome...but I have seen
plenty of Berbicks fights (not a fan) I just dont know much about Burman.
Hence the thread.
Help me to learn please

Here are HL clips of Burman in his losing rematch to Tommy Farr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxwTiFHjr7k Burman's the guy with the receding hairline. Unfortunately his fight with Louis is not online.
Re: Tell me about Red Burmann
Thanks for that,
I only just found that clip last night.

Re: Tell me about Red Burmann
Going from that you can see Burman had a nice counter right hand
and decent footwork.
Nice jab as a counter and lead when he threw it.

Re: Tell me about Red Burmann
Burman was a protege of the great Jack Dempsey and the old Mauler was a hard taskmaster in the gym. If memory serves me correctly, Jack was in Red's corner when he got demolished in 5 by Joe Louis. Burman was well-schooled in the fundamentals, unlike some today, and this compensated for some lack of natural punching power. Not a huge man, he could still make light heavyweight when he was 21. He out-boxed some good boys. So, if ST Gordon was able to out-point Trevor Berbick, chances are Burman could have too.
