Worst ever refereeing displays?

Just watched the full Danny Williams v Konstantin Airich fight on youtube and have to say the performance of Alfonso Garcia Perez was abolutely unreal! Got mde thinking if there has ever been a more shambolic refereeing display? The only one I could think of off the top of my head to run it close was Roger Tilleman in the 2003 Sven Ottke - Robin Reid bout. Any other third man classics you can think of chaps?

the referee against Tyson was a complete pussy

also i tended to err in favour of Michael Sprotts 'Sharkey' moment in their 2nd fight (richie Davies)

as for the heavyweights ? just a few wrong stoppages ..Dokes Weaver 1 springs to mind

The ref for Tyson v Lewis was appalling, kept telling Lennox off for hitting him. His name has escaped me now..

Reid v Ottke was bad. Cortez in Hatton v Mayweather was frustrating, and Frank Cappacino used to piss me off because he would get so involved and stop the fight for daft reasons.

Some of the European refs (Dutch, Belgian etc) are the most bent.

Cortez for Hatton v PBF and JC v B-Hop was awful, thankfully neither display affected the results

Roger Tillerman was one of the judges when Thaxton was fighting for the EBU title a couple of months ago, was the only person who booed him... I think the Williams reff was worse, Eddie Cotton looked like he was going to warn Lewis after he KOed tyson as well!

Jay Nady when handling Maskaev-Rahman II. He was awful; trying to find any excuse in the book to make sure Oleg didn’t win. When Hasim was knocked down in the last, I’m sure Nady ripped a loose bit of tape on Rahman’s gloves so to give him more time to clear his head.

i'm one of the few people who think Taylor v Chavez was a right stoppage. Taylor was in no fit state to continue, regardless of how long was left on the clock.

The fight ruined him anyway and there was still time for him to take a few more blows.

Shame pretty much every top ref has been mentioned - i'll go with Gunn v Gross but well worth it for comedy value.

Which recent fight did the ref help the fighter of the canvas before counting?

Nady was spot on for Tszyu v Judah, Zab went down, got up, went down again, got up again and was still all over the place.

As for Steele during Chavez v Taylor 1, it's not his job to know how much time is left in the round, so he was justified in stopping the fight as Taylor was badly hurt.

and even though he was a little shaky he was looking at nady and saying he was alright.

Vargas was hurt and only carried on due to his courage, like you said it should have been stopped sooner in the 12th as Vargas took needless punishment in that round which IMO he has never fully recovered from.

By the way was anyone else shocked when Vargas ended up on his arse twice within the first minute of this fight?

let's compare it to tyson-berbick.

mills lane reffed that fight.

berbick went back down not once but twice.

but during all that lane gave berbick a count and gave him a chance to get it back together.

obviously in the end berbick was gone and lane rightly stopped it.

but my problem with it is that he was up early.

if he'd struggled up at 8 or 9 i can understand steele waving him off.

but this was the final rd of the fight (forget how many secs was left) and he was ahead in the fight.
