Look at what Pavlik said, probably the best judge I'd say...

This is before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k_xIsNn ... re=related

And the after comments I've already posted on the 'Message to Lockett fans thread'

I don't think the event got to him. I think if you aren't nervous topping the bill in Atlantic City there must be something wrong with you.

The bottom line is to win he had to get past the jab inside and land big shots (straight right and left hook) which he couldn't do. He landed a couple of straight rights in the 1st round and a few in the 3rd but for the most part KP kept him at distance. That is where the fight went wrong for him! It was absolutely nothing to do with heart/bottle, he couldn't get inside therefore he lost because Pavlik was able to tee off on him..

He put in the best effort he could and he was getting hurt so Enzo put a stop to it, which was the right thing to do.

Teddy and Search are the kind of idiots I was referring to in the "Message to Lockett fans" thread, idiots who instead of just saying "he wasn't good enough" or something remotely close to being analytical prefer to simply post abuse like saying "taken to school"/"he some sort of c*nt"/"laughable"/"embarassed with himself"

Taking a knee was sensible because he was trying to clear his head to recover instead of standing and trading and getting bowled over.. That actually shows you've got your faculties and are trying to win..

I'll accept he wasn't good enough, but to question his heart and bottle is daft because he was actually quite confident..

Yeah I wrote that and that is completely realistic. Don't get me wrong it wasn't a 50-50 fight by any stretch. Gary was a stellar amateur and is a natural counter puncher. So when I said "made for him" I mean to come inside the long jab with big shots which we've already established that he couldn't manage. He managed a few if you watch round one Gary catches him inside the first minute and a few times in round 3.

That isn't disgracing yourself/being a coward or whatever you want to call it, its trying to box on without having your head taken off...

I think if you look through the threads virtually everyone has a problem with what YOU say rather than me. With respect to Lockett most people came down on the side of it being a big ask, which I accepted all along.

What you are doing is gloating, which even if he'd have won I wouldn't be doing right now.

Did you even read the post?

I'm saying it is not as if I said it was a 50-50 fight therefore we were perfectly well aware it was a huge task but STYLES make fights not reputations. ie if Lockett was up against Jermaine Taylor he'd have had far less of a chance that he did against Pavlik.

What more do you want me to say mate, he couldn't get inside the jab and that was his game. Incidentally when he caught KP inside in rnd 1 he most certainly didn't laugh, he acknowledged the shot (which he'd been training to avoid) its called professionalism, but you wouldn't understand that would you...

Fair play to KP he is a decent guy, we saw him on the boardwalk before and his comments afterwards were tidy...

i have kept out of this 'charade'....but here is my take on it.

lockett and his fans fancied the job and their opinion and indeed optimism was based on the fact that pavlik, on occasions, had been hit and hurt by opponents who, on paper (and this is an important comment, ON PAPER) were lesser punchers and fighters than gary lockett.

they thought (even though the whole match up was a big ask) that lockett could land the 'rockett' and take care of business state side.

in reality, this blinkered approach clouded over the fact that pavlik is a superb athlete, a superb puncher, a decent boxer and a man of sublime recovery power, and a man whose cv was littered with a higher eschelon of opponent than one of FW's 'cotton wooled' brigade.

and before anyone starts to conjure up any of my previous posts, i thought it was perhaps a 70/30 fight in pavliks favour with lockett having a punchers chance.

Fair play, that is a fair and pretty accurate account. Lockett fans accept he came up short against THE best Middleweight in the world but I certainly don't think there is any shame in that whereas some people just want to 'stick the boot in'. Pavlik is undisputed champ in theory as he is the man who beat the man who beat the man....people really should remember that...

Haven't got time to read all the thread but just to say that as far as I'm concerned, Gary Lockett did indeed give his best shot. He was totally outclassed, didn't have the power to trouble Pavlik and had never felt power like it that was coming his way.

He took a shellacking in the brief time it lasted.

This was no Michael Hunter against Molitor who did get out as quickly as he could, in my opinion.

If he hadn't of traded with Pavlik, then maybe I'd agree he gave It his best shot.

So he would have been better off on his bike? Maybe. He might have lasted longer but I'm not sure that really qualifies as 'better'.

My thoughts exactly. The only chance he had was a puncher's one and he gave it a go, as far as I'm concerned anyway.

I agree, getting a bit fed up with some of the posters on here.

As if they'd have the stones to get in with Pavlik and trade.

Maybe he could have got on his bike, but as we all saw, Pavlik is better than Gary and would have caught up with him eventually.

Given Pavlik's run of late I find it amazing to see him being criticised.

He fights a mandatory - giving him a shot - batters him and still gets called 1-D. He will give Joe all he can handle. If he starts avoiding mandatories and goes for the cash will you give him respect? I think he's doing things the right way, good luck to the bloke.

Superior nothing, he has explosive movement and should of used that to move around a little, Pavlik doesn't do as well with movers.
